Where have you tried for the Z6i?????? If you ask the right people you will get a Z6i with a price that starts with £17xx and that will be WITH the ballistic turret!

Also... Are you going to use this as a target scope? if not I would suggest 24x is far more than you need... nothing wrong with high mag but it comes at the expense of low mag.... From a versatility point of view, a scope with a mag range that includes a very low setting and a high setting (i.e. 2.5-15) is going to be useful in many more situations than one with med/high - very high (i.e. 6-24).. be honest with yourself... how often are you likely to use 24x in the field!? I rarely go above 10x on my Z6i,in fact, I don't think I ever have! it is usually sat on 6x.. the ability to wind it down to 2.5/3 has proved it's worth on quite a few occasions... you could even conceivably get away with the Z6i wound down to 2.5 for driven boar should you so decide in the future.. you couldn't do that with the Zeiss on 6.

Wise words and I don't disagree. Now, if anybody knows where I can get the Gen 2 Swaro 2.5-15 x 56 IR BT for a price beginning with £17xx can they please let me know (via PM if necessary).

Just spoken to Robin at Cluny who gave some good prices on the Swaro's. Think I'm going to go with the Zeiss as a fellow forum member has given me an excellent price, but thanks to all concerned for the constructive input and advice.
 
To be fair, I am in the same boat and have further questions, such as:
What is the difference from version 1 and 2 in the z6i? branding, quality/design issue?
I dont hear much about S&B zeniths, is it just a fashion thing?
Khales are good, and I have one on my .243, which is an 8x56. This apppears to have the edge of a S&B 8x56.

Some of the latest rifle scopes feel light. I know weight saving is good but sometimes weight can translate into endurance quality.
I have looked throught the zeis HT(?) range and they look good, but they all do in a gun shop. I want to talk to someone who has given theirs the full treatment.

there is better out there without the big price tag big name look at vortex sightron and yes i have owned size s/b night forse ior kales all were over 1000 to 2000 pounds what do i have on my gun sightron s111 6x24x50 why best value for the money same glass as night force with better resoluton half the price of night force you dont always get what you pay for have a look at the problems with zise s/b on the forum like sent my scope back 3months ago still waithing send you sightron back to the shop get a new one within a week now thats service sorrey i will not pay big money for what a name no thanks i hope you get the right scope sorted bud
 
I use the S&B zenith on three rifles 2.5 - 10 x 56 and have just agreed purchase on a 3 - 12 x50 all have F7 reticules and in all honesty from the experience with these I wouldn't change for any other scope.

They are a tad expensive, but you only get what you pay for in scopes, Swarovski and zeiss they are brilliant scopes without exception, but I feel some of the cost for one feels like hype or cosmetic costs in relation to value, S&B reflect quality and cost values for the product is in my mind bang on the button, you get what you have paid for, quality product without frills
 
This weeks Shooting Times has a comparison test between Zeiss Victory, Swaro and another. Zeiss comes out on top according to Bruce Potts.
 
Light transmission in low light conditions. I gave the mag to a mate so can't give you the exact quote but he reckoned at the Zeiss Victory would give you extra shooting time at dawn / dusk and that was enough to edge it for him.
 
I wish I had 2 grand to spend on a scope. I run my set up on a budget. Leupold glass for me and it works. I wouldnt know what the expensive glass would be like. It must be brilliant compared to mine. I use a 3x9.50 on my .308 and 4x12.50 0n my 22/250. Both scopes cost me about 800 quid with a life time warranty. Iam curious now what the diffrence at first and last light would be. cheers Hootsman

My limited experience seems to support this. Based on what I've looked through I'd put Nickel first for light transmission, then Zeiss and then Swaro and S&B about equal third.

However, there are many makes that I've never had a chance to play with in low light.

If I had the cash and wanted the best then I'd buy Nickel. If I just wanted something that would do the job then I think that Swaro or S&B will do more than most stalkers will ever need and I guess this is how they survive as they build something adequate for the job at hand. I use an S&B 8X56 and usually find that I decide it is too dark to shoot before the scope would be the limiting factor.

shame your so far away or you could have seen my zeiss gear in action.
 
Aye I would mind a wee look YRS and compate mine at last light. I also use Hawke pro stalk binos, and the swarovskis arent much better at last light cheers Hootsman
