Best Scope for .308 Hill Stalking?

I have been using a Leica 2.5-15x56 which I find just about perfect for the hill. 30mm tube, not too heavy. Ret in 2nd FP with daylight bright illumination. Adjustment on elevation but not on windage. Low power for close shots (have used down to 4x for close shots) and 15 for long. 56 Obj nice for a bright image on grey days or if you end up in forestry. Forgiving eye box for awkward shooting positions and parallax adjustment.

Zeiss used to do a reticle that was perfect for hill stalking as it was so simple. It was called the far shot reticle or something similar. It was a standard number 4 reticle with an additional single horizontal bar 7cm at 100m below the main aiming point. Zeroed 1.5 in high at 100 gave zero at 190m and then the second cross hair at 250m. The Swarovski TDS takes the idea a bit further but the simplicity of the Zeiss reticle was superb for most uses. I can only guess that it was unpopular as it vanished from the catalog.
I like my TDS, but do sometimes think it's a little cluttered. It zeros at 100, and then approximately 200, 300, 400. I'm not convinced the latter is that useful so just having two would be "better". Swarovski now do the BRX/H rather than TDS, but it's the same thing.

Whilst a big fan of the S&B 8x56mm for open hill a 8x50 or even 6x42 would meet your needs. The S&B 8x56mm is great in low light….but isn’t lightweight if you’re humping up hill and down dale all day. But then, I like to travel light these days.

On a 308, having a dialable turret is a bonus. Sometimes you may need to stretch ranges and or make a follow up shot. I like Zeiss scopes, both mine are variable zoom and have ASV turrets.
