£2k to spend on a scope - what would you buy?

In exactly the same situation I narrowed it to 3 - Z6i, Lecia Magnus and Zeiss Victory HT all 56mm - bought the zeiss cheaper and better light gathering to extend the time into dawn & dusk. It replaces a S&B 8 x 56, my hill rifle still has a S&B on it.

Choice is yours but your not going to get a duffer out of those 3?

Read shooting times this week says it all really. I have owned 3 Zeiss 3-12x56 over the past 15 years and really rate them they take some beating. I am considering
6-24x56 zeiss victory with a possible long range 7mm08 rifle

Ret 60 illuminated every time for stalking IMO

If you don't know exactly what glass you want then don't buy yet!!! When you look through the one and only you will know it. Personally, if you haven't got a big rifle there's where the money needs to go, if you do have a big rifle then get a bigger one and if you ticked that box get a double ;).

Buy a Meopta and spend the change on a Tika
good choices ut not everyone is on a budget.
Some may buy say a "luxus" type rifle and want the best sat on it.
Others will spend their budget on the scope and buy a secondhand rifle to go underneath it.
The o.p. was 2K ON THE SCOPE not outfit and change.

Well I am not an expert, numpty really, but I thought I had seen scope heaven this weekend it was Ken's Zeiss 8 x 56 classic. Sharp, bright good colour and not a lot to waste time on adjusting.

Have a Meopta and it is going to a mate for an undisclosed fee. I want illuminated and is for woodland and hill and will sit on my .270 blaser...but then thats it..no more.

Just looked and compared the lot, went for new Zeiss victory HT, doesn't have the 14 mag only a 12 in 56 objective, but will save you a few quid on your 2k budget and haven't seen anything in the same price bracket that compares. In due course the swaro and other top brands will go the schott glass route as fantastic optics

If you want the best and want to spend c. £2k then get yourself a Nightforce NXS

LOL - not even close in terms of optical quality.

I have had lots of the top makes of scopes. I have had the opportunity to directly compare scopes such as ths Swaro 6-24x50 PV against the Ziess victory 6-24x56.in low light and other field conditions (ran both scopes together on different rifles for over a year ).

Some of the scopes I have owed ( and still own )

Zeiis 6-24x56 - Ziess 3-12x56 - Ziess 8x56

Swaro 6-24x50 PV -Swaro 6-18x50 AV - Swaro 4-12x50 - Swaro 8x50

S&B 3-12x50 - S&B 8x56

Meopta 4-16x44 tact - Meopta 3-12x56 - Meopta 7x50

Nickel 3-10x52

Nightforce - 8-32x56 NXS

The zeiss 6-24x56 Victory I/R is ( in my opinion ) optically the finest scope on the market - I currently own three of them. Fantastic optics - unbelievable low light performance - super wide field of view - precision turrets for dialling in. - Totally repeatable Only downside is the cost.

I have had the opportunity to shoot my mate S&B 5-25 PM2 against my zeiss Victory - Both are superb , but I prefer the wider FOV on the victory. Swaro z6 range look very good - but is poor for long range dialling in,

I've used a Z6 3-18x50 and a Victory fl 4-16x50 side by side and to my eyes the Zeiss was the clear winner, brighter and sharper,I thought. The friend I was with thought the Zeiss was too bright, almost unnatural and preferred the Z6. It's all so individual. But you won't regret buying the Zeiss. I got a good offer for the Zeiss and sold it and use the z6,but I'm always on the lookout for another Zeiss.

it would be a good idea if we could get a group of members with their rifles all together one eve to compare them. If the truth is to be known its what suits your eyes and how good your eyes are. I would love to look through a Leica Magnus, never seen a Nickel or a March. What about Kapps or Steiner. I must say its bloody annoying if you have very goods bins to see a fox through the bins and not the scope. Meopta are mighty underrated in my view. However I just acquires a big zeiss did I make the correct decsiscion, time will tell.

you wont regret buyingthe zeiss V8 its new on the market:-D

Not so sure.... I was excited at the prospect of a 'do-it-all' scope and I am a big Zeiss fan. My understanding is that the light transmission is not as good at the Victory HT range. As low-light performance is a priority for me, I'm sticking with the Victory HT across my stalking rifles (the scopes are absolutely stunning btw and the 2.5-10x50 would be my suggestion.)

Does this thread resurrection win some kind of award, by the way? :D
