faulty .17 round 1.webp. This is what to look out for when that .17 HMR doesn't sound right. This is what we found when a friend of mine was using a .17 saturday night. He nearly chambered another round when i grabbed his hand and said, wait, i had one blow up my gun.

When this happened to me last year the importer paid for a new Gun, with the fantastic help from the GUNROOM IVYBRIDGE
Lets wait for the post that someone has been seriously hurt with these rounds woodfordfallow

happened to me on Thursday. I didn't hear the difference and tried to cycle the bolt as I thought I had missed the rabbit. luckily the round was stuck far enough back that the next bullet hit it and my bolt wouldn't close.

thats it i'v had it with the 17hmr super gun its for sale sako with atac mod and rings & 700 plus rounds all hornady 17g whats it worth??
this is getting out of control every day we read about some poor bugger with his hmr horror story ,whats the gun trade doing apart from grabbin the sold fee!
i'am not letting my son be the first on the list to be hurt bad .:tiphat:

Don't think it matters which ammo it is. If the HMR goes click for any reason, even if you know there was no cartridge in there,
STOP, REMOVE BOLT, SHINE TORCH DOWN BARREL, (most of my shooting is done at night) AND MAKE SURE IT IS CLEAR.
I still have my old stock with a very large hole in it to remember.

is this the only cal it happens to, bloody scary thought...have a 223 sako 85 is there any bother with them

just found this on net
USA
If you have any Remington 17 HMR ammunition that you wish to return to Remington contact the Remington Consumer Service number below. Do not return the ammunition to the dealer. Remington will provide you with a $10.00 coupon for each complete box of 50 rounds of Remington branded 17 HMR ammunition you return to Remington. This coupon will be good for the purchase of any Remington ammunition at your local dealer.
WILL a uk dealer take hornady back ! if so i have 700 to send back

just this cal i also run a 308 sako 85 with no problems its the ammo not the rifle but you can't have one without the other

There are loads of threads about this, so I won't go into it. But, yes it is mainly HMR. It can and has happened with other calibers but, buy enough cars and eventually someone will crash. The problem seems to be less now than it was, but it is still worth being aware of and just taking that extra bit of care. Just google it or use the search facility on here.
And even though my HMR went bang, I bought another and wouldn't sell it for the world as I think it is still a fantastic round. That might start another common thread. HMR is crap, no it ain't, yes it is, no it ain't etc etc.:D

No the HMR isn't crap, the ammo is though.
I sold mine before I had a serious problem, a couple of split cases and then a phut that left a bullet in the bore, luckily I did
notice it, because another round would have chambered as the bullet had made it about 3 inches up the bore.

I replaced it with a 22 hornet, works very well for me, but would be a pain if I didn't like, or didn't have time to load for it.

Neil. :)

17 head 1.webpThis is the head i removed be warned these can kill.We had driven 35 miles to the shooting ground the farmer was expecting us to do good job on the rabbits expected bag of about 100, With zeroing the gun we fired only 20 rounds then had to drive all the way back home.

If you want a rimfire small game rifle buy a 22WMR. A huge variety of ammo for every situation. Good accuracy. Seldom a dud round. I shoot heaps of it. Never an ugly surprise.~Muir

(If you could own 5mm Mags, the whole complexion of the argument would change!)

The bullet is going a little way up the barrel.(Yes its going off) i hear that its the lubrication from the loading press getting into the powder. But i have no idear if thats true.

This is really getting out of hand now, it seem to be happening on a daily rate, does anybody contact the manufacture of the ammo when this happen?? what sort of response do you get from them??

A very worried hmr user!

Now, I'm not saying that the .17HMR is a fashion round - hey, I've got a 6.5x55 so have been accused of the same - but there are better rounds that won't try to f*ck you up before the quarry in the crosshairs

Is that the sound of a new thread? - .17HMR replacement calibre

so i take it, its more a ammo related problem, not a problem with the gun its self.
does it happen for all makes of ammo, i to am a .17hmr user, ive not long owned it and it has me worried.

Mine wasnt bought for fashion, it was to get a rabbit problem sorted out, where i couldnt use the .22lr ( being a bouncy little round lol!) but i think i can see a change of rifle on its way,

Its not fashion its a great calibre i have had one for ten years. Its the ammo manufactures trying to make a fortune. They never use to be so bad. I completely burnt one barrel out with no trouble. firing tens of thousands of rounds with a pest control business.
