What’s peoples go to ammo?
I have some Remington premier magnum and the shoulders keep splitting. Don’t know why Accuracy is fine 🤷‍♂️

I had that problem with Remmy HMR ammo, some of it led to squib rounds as I assume the powder got damp and deteriorated (thankfully none made it into the rifling, so no chance of a blocked barrel). I had a similar (worse) problem with Winchester.

I've since switched to Hornady and found it much better. I still get the odd split shoulder but it's nowhere near as common.

CCI also seem good, again some split but it isn't that common.

I believe the real issue is when the splits a present pre-firing which is what I was finding with a lot of Rem/Win ammo. If they occur on firing then at least the powder is safe up until that point.

It's said that this problem plagues older ammo more than the new stuff (the manufacturers were using brass that was too hard) but seeing as I haven't wished to try Rem/Win again I can't confirm whether that's true.

that happens a lot. Hornedy did it for years. I’ve never seen it in my rifles. Just keep looking round For a brand you like. It’s not like your reloading the cases. Just make sure you don’t get a squib load. If it sounds wrong when you fire it. It probably is.

CCI make most of it despite what it says on the box with variants being denoted by colour of the tip on the Vmax variants. Have a look at the manufacturing labels. They are all made in the same place. I am currently using Norma Vmax in the HMR but it is basically the same as Hornady, CCI, Federal and Remington. Just different coloured bullet tips.

Is it Winchester that have their own line and do it inhouse? Cannot recall but Winchester was always the worst stuff I came across.

The rest is luck of the draw. Some stuff is genuine half inch at 100yd stuff and when you find that, go back and buy whatever the dealer has in stock. Most is 1-1.5" stuff which is fine for intended use and sometimes you get some real cack but that is rare.

It is rimfire hunting ammunition and quality control is at best, average. Generally good for 120yd night vision bunnies but when you get the good stuff, it turns the HMR in to a genuine 150yd+ cartridge.

I had always used Federals but had to go rather unwillingly to Hornady V Max, both 17 gr. as that was all the dealer had in stock.
Both perform faultlessly and have never had a fault in about 1000 rounds.
Accuracy is incredible with both, CZ455, the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

I have only used hornady in mine I still get a few split cases but from what I hear its nothing to worry about.

Winchester were really bad for splitting in a guys 17 hmr I know
