1943 Marksmanship test.

That's a pretty comprehensive test. It would require some practice for those of us who predominantly use sticks when stalking! Would be fun to try though.

And yes, personally, with the common shot distances of most european, non mountain hunters, i think a nice movement in recreational hunting could be to practice more skills, like the markmanship principles taught in the old days, and thus become able to lower our use of modern equipment meant to compensate for a lack of such skills, in part.
I suspect it would make for much more satisfactory hunting experiences and journeys in learning and development for many. And whilst it would likely be a more time consuming process, it would likely cost less and bring greater satisfaction.

But each to their own of course. :) 👍
 
I did this M16 course back in 1994 at Camp Perry Ohio with my two then 14 y/0 twin daughters it was free with all ammo etc covered by the US / NRA. If you can get over there in the summer it is 100% worth doing for the craic. Damn hot though.

Rifle Small Arms Firing School​

  • Basic instruction and firing practice
  • Competition skills instruction and range firing
  • School concludes with special M16 Rifle EIC Match
  • Personal rifles and ammunition MAY NOT be used in the class.
Rifle students fire prone, sitting and standing position slow or rapid-fire exercises. On the second day, Rifle SAFS students test their new marksmanship knowledge and skills by firing an M16 Rifle EIC Match. Participants must bring eye and ear protection to the course. The minimum age for Rifle SAFS students is 12.
