hi al
l can you get a 22-250 with say a 1:8 twist as most i have asked about have a slower twist 1:12 ???? looking at getting one in the new year

I have both 1-14 and 1-12 the 1-12 will shoot up to 60' with good accuracy, though i generally use 53 Vmax, the other, 1-14 i just stick to 55 nosler BT's, not must difference really i just fancied something different. Although i am toying with the idea of a change round and having one re-barreled in 260.

So, waffling over, stick with a 1-12.

My cuz has a Savage 1:9", shooting the 69gr TMK. Its a hunting rifle.

The benefit of the fast twist, high velocity .224 is that the BC of the 69gr bullet is considerably higher than the .243 weight equivalent, e.g. 0.373 for the .224 TMK, 0.259 for the .243 MatchKing. So for longer range coyotes etc, its a no brainer. However, gut feel is that most of the time he uses the .243, just with a heavier bullet (103gr).

So without knowing why you would want a fast twist .22-250 @del47, can't really say much more. The list above was correct as of about 6 months ago. Fast twist .224s are cool, the heavier bullets are awesome performers.

thanks for the info lads after shooting and loading for the 223 (Vermin and a lot of paper) was curiouse why people didnt use the heavy heads in 22-250 i like to play about seeing how far i can push them

Having had 2 tight twist 22.250 rifle and currently having a 8 twist 22 BR, I can tell you from experience that the combination of the larger 22.250 case , behind a high BC bullet is an awesome combination.

There are too many naysayers that are too quick to dismiss something which they have little experience of, and obviously are not aware of what a properly turned out 22.250 can do , when firing high BC bullets .

For vermin shooting out to 600 yrds it is one of the best calibres I have used. One only need do the maths to see that shooting a 77 grn TMK at 3300fps will out perform most things. The 22.250 had a ballistic advantage on both my 6BR and 243 at these ranges

Another tick in the box for me , is that an 8 or 9 twist 22.250 will also shoot 53 / 55 grain pills with no loss of accuracy. So what we end up with , is one of the best foxing calibres on the planet - that is more than capable of consistently taking out long range vermin. A calibre that has quality reloading components that are easily to get hold of and a huge choice of factory ammo if needed.

I am aware there are several manufactures the produce factory rifles with a 9 twist, Savage (model 12) and the Bergara HMR being the most obvious. Other than that, get an 8 twist custom tube fitted and enjoy.

Makes perfect sense, sounds awesome. I've always liked fast twist .243's my mate has a Krieger barrel which shoots 108g eld match insanely accurately. 3300fps with a .22 tmk sounds an awesome combo, hell if it were legal for deer it would make a cracking head and neck shooter. The ft lb in energy is there, just not the diameter ☹

I used ti shoot Howa 1:14 twist that was most accurate gun i had seen ever with 55gr ballistic tip one hole group at 100yards any time. Used to shoot 1:12twist as well not really good with anything, but that was the gun. At the moment i use 1:10twist Shultz and Larsen and it really make sense extremely accurate with 55gr ballistic tip and same thing with 69gr TMK and on 600yards those TMK hold together with my 6.5

What powder yous using with the 69gr TMKs and the heavier.22 bullets?? Am getting a 26” 1:8 twist barrel put on to shoot the 69gr TMKs. Cheers.
