I love mine. I have a CZ 527 and use factory Winchester and PPU 45gr rounds. Easily manages 1moa.
yeah might as well put a plastic bottle over the end , think they had real big clearances on the end hole as well as no series of baffles the MAE is 12 bafflesAbsolutely. To be fair I had a husher mod on it (shows how long ago!) and it wasn't up to the task.
dunno how you shot the barrel out ?! in that timeline , rust out pretty easy though shot out must take over 10k minimum ? I have had mine about 13-14 years and i am certainly getting on to 700 rounds average PA and the bore is still fine and it can run 0.25 moa on a good day with everything other than varmint granades doing similar ( they slap a target sideways even at 50 yards only ) even tough to get them on paperBack when I first started shooting, 2007ish, I swapped my HMR for a .22 Hornet. Performance on foxes was much improved and for a couple of years it was my favourite rifle bar none. I used it so much I shot the barrel out!
The K version is just a modified case shape. Sharper shoulder to help with case life, not that I had a great deal of bother with that with the standard one. I'd just go for the standard one in a CZ527. A lot of Hornets have a reputation for not shooting too accurately, but the CZ's are well recognised amongst fans of the cartridge as being one of the best rifles you can buy. I had mine shortened to 18", it was a brilliant walk around vermin rifle and I took everything from rats to roe deer (humane dispatch) with it.
I could vouch for 7000, but as I home load that was a minimum figure. Could have been more. It didn't have time to rust.dunno how you shot the barrel out ?! in that timeline , rust out pretty easy though shot out must take over 10k minimum ? What is the rough ratio of fox to rabbit you intend to shoot ?
Have you looked at the 17 hornet? Flatter, with less drop and less affected by wind- it beats the 22 hornet on paper in all areas.
I still think the 22H is a better fox tool, however- if that's your main focus.
My 17H is the same noise level as my HMR.
Do you have a lot of rabbits ? For big numbers- HMR still wins IMO. Unless you have a little 22LR as well.
Hornets are generally considered a bit much for closer range rabbits. If you want to eat them head shots are the only real option- and even then you may well bruise the spine.
For headshot rabbit damage to look like a typical 70 yard HMR shot- you would have to have shot it at around 200 yards....
I'm very tempted to swap hmr for 17H mainly for wary crows. What max distance you'd say you could drop crow?
If I got one it'd purely be a crow killer, only day time set up. I'm on my 2nd HMR. Great calibre imo but it's not what I need. I'm torn between a hornet or start to reload for 204 so can bring £/round down.![]()

Hi mate. Yeah basically soon as they hear the bike now they're off. Its not a case of setting up decoys/hide etc and having proper sesh on them, I don't have the time (wish I did) so it's just sniping them from bike as I go around jobs.Hi Ben.
Have the crows gotten use to the HMR? They soon learn and will learn again if you up the rifle. Next it will be a 22-250 etc etc.
Why not use the 204? Or it set up for night only? Is it to heavy?
How about a roll reversal, the HMR for night and the 204 for the crows?
And get reloading, you could start for under 300£.
HMR ? fail to expand reliably after 160 ! 240? Pretty much wont . Sheds velocity and it isnt really very fast to begin with , that said a rabbit and it doesnt take an expanding bullet , heck a 10 ftlb airgun will do the jobI used mine out to around 240 mtrs and it still has accurate legs for more than that, only reason I swapped it for a 22 hornet was having to track a couple foxes down, even though the shot placement was spot on, but accuracy and longer range shooting on rabbits it’s top drawer
The one one the left, 175 paces, good paces! Pass through, trotted 20yds and keeled over.HMR ? fail to expand reliably after 160 ! 240? Pretty much wont . That's why I have a dog.The chance of getting runners and wounding foxes at that range is v high with a HMR.
But you told me the dog couldn't catch a wabbit let alone a foxThat's why I have a dog.
Personally I've found no difference. Just less mess. About 130 or under is ideal I must agree.
