.22 rimfire models

Hey all,

After some advice on .22 rimfire models. I have been reading a current similar thread but was after some advice on specific models.

My requirement is for .22 rimfire for rabbits only. With all of my other shooting, this will likely be a fair weather safe queen, so am looking for something that is a pleasure to use, something a bit older with pretty wood that I can admire when not in use 😂

Understand brands to look for include Sako, Anschutz, Mauser, BRNO, CZ etc but to help me narrow my search, can anyone recommend specific models? Or any other brand I have not thought of?

Cheers in advance

I bought a new Sako about 10 years ago, have had empty case ejection problems , I was told they bore the chamber to target rifle spec so the slightest bit of crap in there they don’t eject!!!
So now I use a bit of oil on every second mag full, not ideal, especially for Sako.

Mine was doing similar but I added a stronger spring to the extractor and it's not happened since! They, the extractor gets crud under it and trapped which jacks it away from the case head. They are easy to remove and clean. Remove the spring and measure it and buy a longer similar etc 👍🏻

It's just a standard old (c1960's) Czechoslovakian Brno that I experimented on as part of my first and last attempt at checkering!

Looks stunning. Well done sir, I love the dark wood.

With regards the annie 54 sporter, is that the model I should be looking for or the action? Seen some other models that claim to have a 54 action but have different model names?

Based on recommendations on this forum, I bought a CZ457, and it's a great rifle.

I got the model with the synthetic stock, to minimise weight, but there are many wood stocks available, both original and aftermarket.

Hi, yes I have a CZ457 too in .17hmr, laminated thumb hole. Stunningly accurate. Was just after something a bit older, heirloom type of quality in wood for occasional use 😀 I hope you are enjoying your 457 as much as i am 👍

I started with an old Winchester semi auto that came from a family friend. Then over the next few years had a multitude of different makes and types (due to having a mate with a gun shop and an understanding FLD). The rifle I kept for many years was a Brno mod 2. I gave it away a few years ago when I got chance of a couple of Anschutz rifles one a 64 target action the other a 54 which is unfortunately got to go. As I can't justify keeping it, I got it for using out of the truck window but don't control rabbits that way anymore. So it's going to make room for a 17HMR (I need the extra range). I won't be parting with the other one though.

I also have a BSA Century .22LR, which is a target rifle with a heavy barrel (albeit mine was shortened by a previous owner), so not ideal for hunting / pest control etc, and until very recently I also had a Zstava CZ99 Precision .22LR (the Serb Zastava factory should not be confused with the Czech CZ - the similarly in the names is accidental). The CZ99 was a great lightweight rifle with very nice stock, though I'm not sure how common it is.

The BSA is on the right, the CZ99 on the left.

Depends what you mean by "pleasure to use" OP.

If you want something that feels lovely to cycle the bolt and is older- it will have to be an Annie or Sako.

If you want something that is pretty then just base it on how nice the stock looks. Ideally test to make sure it's accurate - but with hunting ammo and a bolt- there won't be a big difference in accuracy IMO.

Thanks for this 👍 any particular Annie models you would recommend?
