.22 rimfire models

Looks stunning. Well done sir, I love the dark wood.

With regards the annie 54 sporter, is that the model I should be looking for or the action? Seen some other models that claim to have a 54 action but have different model names?
If I'm not mistaken that beautiful Annie 54 is a 1422D. I have one, my first firearm that I bought new in the mid 80's. Still have it, they are a lovely rifle - shame the stock on mine isn't quite as nice!

Thanks for this 👍 any particular Annie models you would recommend?

Provided magazines are easily avaliable- and it shoots straight - I don't think it matters too much.

I know the 17XX use a more expensive action than the 14XX versions. Whether they are more accurate - I don't know. It's prob worth researching- it's probably worth knowing the difference between a 40 hear old Annie and a 15 year old one. Not to say the old one will be rubbish!

Gun shops can barely give 22LRs away. Almost any gun shops will have many used examples. Handle lots. Feel the actions and triggers and see what you like.

Personally I like a short barrel- with a nice smooth tight bolt action and a light trigger. You absolutely don't need a heavy or long barrel on a 22lr. It's a complete waste of weight. Some people find some of the stocks on 22LRs thin and puny (cz 452 expecially i think). Doesn't bother me tbh!

Annie XIV carbine in thumbhole walnut. Older the better.
Short superb handling and very accurate.

Sounds like you had a good one, I had mine a few weeks, took it out on a damp evening and the coating blistered, it went back via the retailer, the manufacturer stated 'he has taken it out in wet weather so we will not help', I got a refund from the retailer and bought a Sako

I also have a Brno Model 2.
It is a made up one (customised) ? which my very understanding dealer put together for me consisting of a mint condition action and barrel which he got shortened and threaded for a moderator mated to a really nice hogs back stock.
Very pleased with it. not sure how old it is action number is 458779.

There is a date stamped on the side of the reciever. Just 2 digits.

I have the same. It was the first thing I bought when my FAC was granted. It's a lovely rifle. Others have come and gone, but that one stays.
I have wanted one since I bought my first Gun magazine in 1972.
There was a full page colour ad on the back, a Brno No2 leaning against a stump.
It was the most beautiful rifle I had seen.
Mine is 2 years older than me. But in much better condition.
It shoots very straight.
I traded a Browning BL22 which didn't shoot with pinpoint accuracy.
Very fast but when a good friend brought his new Savage 22 to a plinking session it showed just how dated my BL22 was.
The scope is Czech too, a Meopta 7x50 I got from Holts.

Very nice. My understanding is that it's the precursor of the CZ 457 (which I own).
Yes it is. I don't know what the differences are. Magazines are interchangable though.
I've owned a few rifles in my time and this definately has the look and feel of a well made well thought out gun. Very tight groups and a lovely unmodified trigger.

The mod2 is virtually identical to the 452, which is very close to the 455. The 457 is much more of a design change, very different bolt is the main difference.

All are very nice rifles and will hold their own against much more expensive rifles.

C/z make some nice rifles with pretty good wood go older for nice wood yes but then you have the worry about spares I have a Brno 452E .22 I’ve owned since new but it was out of action for a good year whilst sourcing some spares .

That’s a very good point, I will hear that in mind. Thank you 👍

Two Anschutz in our household. One LH 22" for my daughter which says 'Made in West Germany' on the side! Mine is an early nineties 16" barrel. Both are extremely accurate and are beautifully made. Hers is definitely more accurate at the range (assume longer barrel, but she's probably just a better shot). Both excellent for vermin control
