.22 wmr ammo

Hi guys and girls. As a lefty it’s been an absolute pain in the butt trying to find a left handed bolt action in .22 wmr. So, from another member on here I took the plunge and bought myself a Guncraft semi automatic wmr which I can’t fault. It’s an absolute machine and the caliber is just what I was looking for. Turns out finding ammo is another story. Does anybody know of any gun shops in kent selling either cci hollow point maxi mags or Hornady vmax’s?

When you find it, buy it all!

I use federal premium hollowpoint (kind of like a hollow point with extra slits in the jacket to maximise its impact). Anyway when I need it and find it, then I buy at least a bricks worth, just because it’s so seldomly available. Countryways at West Malling seemed to be the best locally to me for wmr ammo.

They’ve got wmr ammo on order but only have fmj at the min. That’s what I used to zero and take a few rabbits but want a little more punch for foxes. I’d rather put them down quick than following blood trails.

I know you ask about the availability of ammo in your area in the UK but I thought you might appreciate a few comments on 22 mag ammo for predators. I have used a BRNO-ZKM611 auto on Coyotes, foxes, and bobcats since 1993. Coyotes in West Tennessee are about 25 pounds which compared to our foxes puts them at twice the size. Bobcats are about 16 pounds and a big fox is 10-12. The best killing round I have ever used in the Federal Premium 50gr hollow point. Number 2 on my list is the Winchester 40 gr hollow point ( silver box true jacketed bullet not plated like the Dynapoints) . I have not really tried the CCI or Hornady loadings but the CCI 40gr Jacketed Soft Point looks like it would be a good choice. I will be trying some in October.

I didn't like the 50gn on fox. They worked but not as quickly as others.
It maybe that they work better on heavier critters than fox though!

Didn’t really want to go into the 50grains but will defo have a look out for the Winchester hollow points, cheers. I tried the Winchester 30 grain soft points and they were crap. The gun really didn’t like them and jammed after every 3 to 5 shots.

I’ll have a look out for these. They seem to be quite popular 👍

I know where there’s around 2000 hornady vmax in a rfd but it’s not near Kent it’s in Cumbria

The fact is that your rifle will like what it likes. You need to buy one of everything and shoot the complete box before moving on to another make. Choosing what ammo to use at a computer could lead to frustration. I have seven 22WMR rifles , One autoloading pistol and one bolt action handgun. None of them shoot best with one ammo. My BRNO 611 likes CCI Maximag HP best. My beloved CZ452 likes 30 grain Federal Classic HP. My Savage Striker likes Federal TMJ 40 grain. (which will expand on dog sized animals and kill them) My Marlin SSV likes Federal 40 grain HP. My KelTec pistol likes CCI Vmax 30 grain.
I could go on.
Buy what you can. DONT clean it. Shoot the entire box and take notes. Move to the next brand. Any of these will give suitable accuracy for vermin. (usually) Absolute best accuracy will be found over time. ~Muir
(PS: Did I mention Don't' clean it??)
