22 WMR

Hopefully the winchester subsonic 22wmr ammunition will be available again. It might be a case of waiting until lead is banned then perhaps there will be a big switch to this calibre. I'd like to see that cci copper in wmr also.

Not sure if a lead ban will help the situation, especially for subsonic.

I have used the .17 hornady ntx and found it more accurate than lead. NTX in wmr might be a goer but from what I can see, not available in the UK.

I tried a box many years ago now, they were ok actually.

22wmr makes a wonderful bear protection round.
When you are hiking in bear country always be with a companion and carry a good reliable 22 wmr revolver.
Should an irritated bear threaten to attack get prepared with the revolver and shoot your companion in the knee and run like hell!

I killed enough coyote that their pelts paid all my bills one winter using a Marlin 783 22wmr. With that same rifle i killed a whitetail doe with a single shot and shot the heads off more than a few pheasants. Great cartridge.~Muir
Very versatile round Muir 👍🏻.

Growing up on small farm (around 500 acres) I found a bolt-action .22 magnum the rifle I used the most, for pest control (Rabbits,Hares, opossums etc).Had plenty of others to choose from mainly centerfires but the .22 WMR was just the most useful as it was powerful enough for its task but not too disturbing of livestock.

Shot a lot of fox's with WMR.

It's a great round.
Sometimes though a fox will run on a bit but not far.
Can you get different recoil springs??
The federal/Speer hollow point is a good one but 30gn. The olde CCI 30gn is a sizzler. Henry kranks had some.
Rws 40gn are the strongest WMR round going.
I don't like the 50gn offering by federal but did try 100rds of them. I decided not to get any more.
I found some old Winchester WMR and they were excellent.
Have you tried the standard CCI 40gn?
Long live the WMR 👍🏻
22 WMR used to be the maximum calibre allowed for foxes in Northern Ireland

I also had a .222 Brno Fox,a Ruger Mini-14 in .223,and Win model 70 in .22-250.They were just a bit more than I really needed although the Brno was good for a light walk-around rifle and still quite mild to shoot regards noise....this was back in the days before suppressors were a thing and commonly used....

Hi All,
I recently got my first 22 WMR, and initially found CCI 40gr gamepoints to be surprisingly accurate. I also tried Hornady critical defence 45gr which were about the same accuracy. Both are plentifully available from my usual RFD. I am working through a block of 500 of the gamepoints, but they dont seem to be expanding well, judging by carcass damage. Rabbits drop on the spot, but I had a runner on a fox the other night; thankfully quickly followed up.
I think the critical defence offer much better expansion, but has anyone else tried them, or do you have any other suggestions?
My rifle is a semi auto mainly for target use at the club but also occasional rabbit clearance and fox at 100m or less. 40gr is a minimum bullet weight, she does not cycle well with 30gr Vmax. It seems the 22 WMR had a poor reputation for accuracy, but that does not seem to be the case for me so far. While not the tack driver my 204 is, its perfectly good at sensible ranges.
Comments, abuse or suggestions welcome!
Do you have the Gen2 Guncraft?
