.222 50-55gr Lead Soft Point Projectile for Roe - Suggestions please

I'm looking to start reloading for my .222, and want to find a suitable lead projectile for roe, max distance 150-200yrds, most within 125yrd.

I've been using a mixture of Sako, Norma and RWS 50gr SP factory ammo to date.

My first thought was Sierra, and they have the following options and I'm not sure what to go for:

1) .224 50gr Spitzer (1330) - I think this is slightly harder than the 1340 SPT Blitz below, so presumably better for Roe.
2) .224 50gr SPT Blitz (1340)

Welcome any other recommendations though for something suitable. It's for a 1:14 twist Sako, so I'm leaning towards a short flat base SP bullet around 50gr.

I load the PPU SP #B-132 a 55 grain bullet, they are harder than the RWS jackets build and they function very well even in my neighbours 5.6x50 mag. Cheap as chips too.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend Blitzking - this is from the Sierra website:-
“For rifles, this bullet is designed for explosive expansion in varmints and small game and with accuracy characteristic of the MatchKing bullets.”.
Have a look at this - not for the triple deuce but same 55gns Sierra Gameking bullet over a moderate load of N120 will drop any roe you wish to shoot - my goto for Perthshire.

Game king is a old classic for roe,we used to buy factory sako back in the day with 55 grn game king in them and they done every job asked of them.

Thanks to all the responses. Sounds like 55gr SP is where to start, with sierra being the most mentioned. Will pick some up and see how I go…

The PPU soft points aren’t bad, and they are cheap too! £22 per 100 I think.

I found my rifle doesn’t like the rounded ogive on the more classic soft points though so I’ve moved over to the Hornady VMAX 50gn and those are a one hole group.

Sierra 50g Semi Point are very accurate in my 75 and do the work on roe, 50g Blitz or Vmax for fox. I Can't comment on the 55g GK in the 222, I never used them but, in my 22/250 they're the business.

Hornady 50 grain V-Max in my Sako 75 is my go to load for foxes. Excellent performance all round, and extremely accurate as well. Have not fired at Roe, but would think its a little too explosive for something you intend to eat.

To add my usual sarcasm to this debate, I have been conducting my research on ducks and phaesants that ingest steel pellets at high velocity. I have found that this pretty much results in a quickly fatal occurrence to the end target. No I have done a particularly scientific study with lots of statistics etc etc, but my conclusion is that if you put a duck or phaesants in the middle of a swarm of steel pellets going at close to speed of sound the result is not very good for the duck.

Hunters in the good old US of A - the land of freedom and 1st and 2nd amendment rights etc, not like the commie views of UK and Europe have been doing similar research on waterfowl for decades and they all seem to have come to similar conclusions.

Sierra gameking 55gr sp boat tail always have done the job for roe.
In 22-250 it always knocked them off their feet, and occasionally you could retrieve the mushroomed bullet from the hide.

I use Speer 50 gr with 19.5 gr of Reload Swiss 36 in Lapua brass through my rifle as my Munty round.....and they are also useful for visits to family in D&G; as the rifle sometimes comes with me for the occasional McRoe....

I'm going to try Fox monolithics through it soon, as use them in 80 gr in .243 and 130 gr in my .308.
