.222 opinions?

You wouldn't expect such a jump from a couple of inches, huh? Same weight but different bullet, too, I guess. And probably different brass. Complicated stuff this...

For a 50gr bullet I reckon about 3200 is the magic mark in a deuce, I still struggle to beat the Norma SP factory load, I'm close but it goes to show how good some factory stuff is. Cant be bothered to mess with COAL, if I can hit a 2 pence piece at 100, then muntjac will never know the difference.

I would be more surprised if we were getting exactly the same speed tbf. Different rifle, different brass, different projectile, different primer

It may of been #13.
In some of the comments, not all iirc that they sometimes said that the loads listed were below sammi spec for a given cartridge.
Iirc the comments for 222 mention the lower service pressure due to some weaker actions.
Have a look for me please.

I seem to recall some data, possibly Hodgedens sometimes listing max charges for some metallic cartridges right upto if not just over the sammi limits.
It's been a while etc.
Nothing mentioned for 222 but yes in 7x57 and 6.5x55 regarding old military actions such as model 93/95 Mauser and the 1 lug Krag/Jorgenson actions. Norma used the Model 96 action in pressure guns to 63K. I dont recall in any Hogdon data that says its over Sammi spec, and will not be looking at 20 years of manuals for that.

Looking for some opinions gents on what powder charge you tend to use .222 wise? I made the slight error in buying 100 Sierra 55 grain gameking for loading. Only to test the factory sako ammo out and find the 50 grain shot better..

Anyway, loaded up 4 rounds per charge in 0.2 grain increments with N133. CCI br4 primers.

Seemed to get a ‘good’ group at around 21.2grains. I appreciate the caliber will do better but this was far better than the factory stuff.

Then nearly had a 1 hole group at 26.6 grains but I pulled a shot. So going to reload these two batches I think and see if I can get a similar result. Everything else was around the 3/4”.

What do you guys tend to settle on? Will I notice any real world difference in that extra grain of powder? Going on groups, I suspect 26.6grains will be the way to go but just curious.

Meant to add, it’s for the occasional roe as much as anything. Hence initially I thought the 55grain might be better.
If you can get hold of it 4198 is great 19.8 grains with a 50gr vmax if you want a factory load hornady supervarmint

I now have enough H322 squirreled away to see my 222 stutzen and I enter the Purley Gates. Can’t be doing with this banned powder malarkey at my time of life. Same with Varget and it’s use with the quarter bore.

Very nice powder 322. Utter nonsense banning it.

I use ADI 2207 (=H4198) and close to VV N130. 20.3gr under a 50gr Z-Max/V-Max gives a velocity of 936m/s (3070fps).

Cheers
