Years ago (Circa 40)I met a gunsmith who Showed me a 22-270, not heard of or seen one since, anyone shed any light on the calibre ?

Here's one based on a 270 case, chamber cut with a modified 22-250 reamer.

Nope it is based on the 06 case .

not thw same parent case 270 is based on 30 03 its differnt length

All I can say is wow, if you get much past 4400 with cup and core projectiles expect them to rip apart before impact. With that said really high velocity 22 CF make's my brain itch. Should be fun when you get shooting it.

You are correct. Most know nothing of the 30-03.

I’ve got a 22-250AI on of all things a Ruger #1 action , it was rebarreled with a Lilja stainless medium weight barrel . My pop bought it used at public auction probably 25-30 years ago . I have no idea the twist in the barrel or the number of shots before we got it . But I will say I fired the smallest three shot 100 yard group with this rifle I’ve ever done in my life . Three shots with if I’m not mistaken the Nosler 50 BT were 0.054” after deducting the bullet diameter . That was the first of four sub 1/10 MOA groups I’ve fired in my lifetime so far . I don’t think I’ve fired that #1 in atleast five years .

You still have that Ruger in 22-250AI and not shooting it? shame shame.

Had a 22-250 Ackley for many years and used 75g A Max in it - the build was in Target Sports (when it was a proper paper magazine )

The rifles still going strong now - must be 20 years old now

Performance is superb

The rifle was built in 2000 on s Tikka 595 action and Border cut 8 twist in s Mcmillan Sako Varmint stock

I’m not a great fan of Ackley shoulders . And I have plenty others I can shoot .

The 6.5 - 284 is known as a bit of a barrel burner. Necked down to a 22 fire breather, yikes!
