243 load data please.

I have a tikka t3 243 and am currently shooting hornady 87g sst with great success but am wanting to try something a bit heavier so bought 95g sst and 100g btsp.

I have varget and n160 powder and blue federal primers.

Has anyone got any loads please?

I can't help you with a load for Varget with hat bullet selection but my Mod 70 feather weight seems to like 4350 with 87gn bullets. You may find that Varget is a little too fast for bullets heavier than 75gn. AS far as the n160 is concerned we don't see much of that here in the Colonies.

With Varget, Hodgdon lists only a 3 grain spread between min and max. That means, like always (right?) you will be starting at the bottom and working up. VV has a 5 grain spread for N160 so there you will again, probably be starting at the bottom and working up. No one is going to be able to give you a safe and accurate load for your rifle with any surety. Go to the manufacturer's site and use their data from the bottom up. ~Muir

I know you were hoping for more but even within your components, dies, and rifle there are so many variables that you just need to get out and work it. Pick a load, seat to manufacturers recommended length, and shoot. That has worked for millions of happy shooters for as long as I can remember. By the way, if you can't find data for a 95 grain bullet, simply take the data for the next higher wt bullet and use that. (say, 100 grain data.) It's pretty much the accepted practice. What manual do you have?~Muir

I have loads for both bullet types and powders and they shoot superbly in my T3. However, they could be dangerous in my mates T3 as there is a significant difference in our chambers; my loads would be heavily jammed in his gun, but have a little jump in mine.

I have had good success with h4350 and Vit n160 with nosler 95 grain bt and hornady 95grain sst but as others have said start low and work up vit 160 is my preferred choice for the 95grain 243

Thanks again. I have the Richard lee modern reloading 2nd edition, but it doesn't list for using vhit n160 with the 95gr bullet so I am unsure of what is the start load and max load???

Vihta Vuori manual can be downloaded. Lists 96gr (!) and 100gr with N160

42.4 grains of v160 always worked well for me with a 100 grain soft point.

I only use N160 in my 243. The load I use is 42gr N160 with Hornady 95gr SST for muntjac and CWD. Deadly accurate and drops them on the spot and plenty good enough for the fallow and reds I've shot with them.

I have a Tikka T3 SV and I did shoot 95gn SST With Varget, my load was 34.5gn and an ogive of 2.1856 (20 thou off).

Same bullet with Viht N160 - 42gn most accurate.

I found the Viht slightly more accurate and considerably more available.

I use this round for Muntjac and CWD, on a very close shot or if overdriven the bullet will fragment.

I have tried 100gn Sierra SP and Hornady Interlock but neither could match the accuracy (1/4" @ 100 yds bipod and rear bag) of the SST.

SST all the way for me.

Thanks for all the reply's . I have decided to load with Imr4350 federal 210 primer and coal of 2.650. I have loaded from 39 to 42.5 grains and will try on the target later in the week and post the results.

I used Vit. N160 for many years with Nosler 95gn BT bullets. Worked an absolute treat...I used 44gns for my load in .243Win. but you'd need to work up. I think you'd find it a good propellant for that weight of bullet.
