.243 vs 22-250

All I will say is my Sako 85 243 spat 58gr bullets all over the place but the same gun in 22 - 250 puts 55gr though the same hole . That's why the 243 is used on deer and the 22 - 250 is my go to rifle for Foxes

The .243 is a .308 case necked down whereas the .22-250 is a necked down version of the smaller .250-3000 Savage case which gives about 15% extra case capacity for the .243. So theoretically you can drive the .243 harder and faster for similar bullet weight. Whether you would need to or want to is another matter as a 4000+fps .243 seems excessive to me.

Look at the dimensions of a 22-250, and see how similar it is to other offerings based on the savage...

243 barrel life when shooting at 4000fps?

Of course the sensible option would be to have legislation overhauled in the DEFRA proposals and allow 22-250 on large deer species. Id get a faster twist barrel and shoot heavier bullets, but would probably end up selling another rifle or two.

Home loaded 58 grain vmax in 243 is devastating point and shoot to 300 makes nv foxing basically a doddle I’ve ran 22.250 & 204 in the past both good but I carnt look past the 243 a little round that packs a punch it’s very very rare a fox goes more than down no matter where that bullet strikes

A fast twist 22-250 is about as good as it gets! 69gr Tmk out of a 1-9 22-250 far surpasses the 243 in most respects with a similar weight bullet. 👍🏼
