257 caliber

No mention of the .257 STW yet? I had a custom rig built on a Browning model 1885 High-wall and it was a great powder burner. IIRC it could push a Barnes 100 gr TSX about 3900 fps. That was out of a 26 inch barrel (1:10 twist) and almost a hundred grains of US869. It was a screamer. ;)

How long that barrel last?

I did not record the number of shots, but it had about 300 rounds downrange when I sold it. At that point there was no sign of frosting or erosion in the throat. I never let the barrel get really hot, took my time between shots at the range, etc. I am shooting a 6 x 62 Freres right now as a fun gun, and it is similar in terms of taking it somewhat easy so as to leave the rifling IN the barrel!
