260 long range

Well finally managed to bag the 1000 metre shot using an Accuracy International with. 139 scenars, using strelok and weathermetre, well happy at last, next a mile, only because the crops are coming up fast and having to shoot across into fallow fields, I must add my mate used his. 270 stalking rifle and 3.5-15x50 nightforce scope using graduations not dialing in and had 3 shots on the 30" gong out of 5 shots, impressive!

Interesting Muir, not looked into the finer detail yet, it's a 20 moa rail, watch this space, trying to use what I have without spending more, will look into soon!

My Tikka Creed with the 20 MOA rail runs out of elevation (Vortex Gen II Viper) at about 1300 yards. I have found that the jump between 1000 and even 1500 yards with a 6,5 (260, etc) is a huge leap. Our steel targets are about MOA from 700 to a mile so a 2MOA target might give you a little wiggle room -but not much.~Muir

Thanks Muir it's all trial and error, in some ways a 1000 was the bucket list and was the aim but as normal wanting more and more, hopefully it doesn't happen as I might be getting addicted to this side of the sport

Shooting long range is like smoking crack. The first time you ring the plate you're hooked.~Muir

Impressive group for 100 yds, well done.

139 Scenars...6.5mm...260 Rem. What MV was it running? I only ask as for a mile you'd need to push those pretty hard. I use the same bullet in 6.5CM at 2710fps for 1000 yds and that load is transonic by 1150 yds and subsonic by 1250 yds. At a mile it'd be down to something like 980fps. I've never pushed the scenar through transonic so don't know how stable it would be.

MV 2795 tried with more powder but group size opened up.

So do I

My 260 Improved quite likes the 150 smk bobbing along at 2900 (ish) 😀 though as speed always matters I’m going slightly lower weight and faster for one application

Speed is king, not tried SMK interestingly there is nearly 30 clicks difference between 1500 - 1600 metres, so big difference.

I have an Accuracy International in .308 and after many months now have it dialled in for 100 - 1000 yards. S&B Scope all the bells and whistles.
Thought I could shoot.

I also belong to a Black Powder Club.

Spend half a day watching these old troopers lob solid lead from a 45-70, 45-90 or 45-110 into the ring at 1000 yards with Vernier sights. Very humbling.

Hi Laurie

The 150’s shoot well, sub half inch at 200 mtrs (5 shot group) and testing using OCW over a three grain spread revealed just over an inch spread at that distance with two outside that which were over pressure

The powder I initially settled on was RS60 but the load I mentioned that gave good accuracy but ES was 15 and higher than I’d like (prefer single digit) as the rifle will be used to and beyond 1000

I think the powder is slightly too fast - so will use 160/165 H4831sc that I have here and try again

It may be the 150’s are too heavy for the case, if testing with slower powder doesn’t give me the Es I wish then I’ll return to 130-140 stable and up velocity

Barrels as you know are not an issue to replace

Very pleased with the whole system so far though

Apologies to the Op for going wide of topic
