I use these with rs62,great bullet. Shot out one .270 with them and now on my second with the same components.129gr LRX Barnes with RS60 powder is excellent
150gn Sierra game kings.I’m just starting to reload for .270 and was wondering what bullets people went with for minimal meat damage and good knock down power.
I have just purchased some 130gr Hornady Intelocks to try out, don’t really mind toxic or non toxic
Thanks
Luke
They will work at that speed on big stuff at over 300 that I will guarantee you, as long as you know that you drips areI use 130gn Gameking, and slow them down to around 2750. Absolutely perfect .270 load for roe, with the capability of killing larger deer at sub-300 yards (in my experience) It's a relatively gentle round to shoot too, although you'll know it if you shoot a few of them
Thanks Tim150gn Sierra game kings.
There is next to no meat on the ribs of deer so put the rounds clear behind the shoulder and you will have "no meat damage"
Shoot it on an angle then you will smash a shoulder and get your meat damage.
What people go on about is "bruising" it is just the blood spreading out as it has nowhere to go especially on the side it is laying on the way home.
What you don't want is a deer getting up!
Unless I shoot a muntjac in the high neck or under the chin I expect to write off 1 shoulder, quite often I aim a bit higher if they are on an angle so that will bust tops of both shoulders and miss the greens.
If you smash 1 shoulder on a big deer you will be able to cut lots off, take it to the dealer and except any deductions.
I’ve no issue with lead/non lead but certain places insist on it so it can’t hurt to have a load that works in either flavourwhen are people gonna get our this toxic shite .
everything in this world is toxic if you take enough of it
I would go 130’s over 150’s , but you have to remember is not all 270’s like 150’s that’s from experience, Tim obviously has a 270 the likes 150’s when I had a 270, I couldn’t get a 150’s to group on a saucer let alone an inch! Thanks Tim
You are right it is more the bruising/damage I was referencing, I understand if the deer is quartering etc I may lose a shoulder, I’m just trying to minimise damage if using on the smaller species but trying to make one rifle fit all with the .270.
I do have a .223 also but Sod’s Law if I’m out with that it won’t be a muntjac I see.
I use the gamekings in the .223 so il grab some for the .270 and give them a try
Thanks
I have a .243 also .270 and tbh the .270 will be getting my other N/V scope on as I have changed my stalking routine as it works much better for me with the dusk to dark. The .243 has 95gn's whizzing out the end for everything from fox to reds. Thanks Tim

The 130gn is the bread and butter bullet for the 270 win![]()
