I have a 30.06 which I originally bought for fallow, red and one day European boar zeroed with 150gr Federal power shok, however due to circumstances I have used on the odd roe and muntie.
This is just my findings but I have found the damage considerable, to the extent where I once acquired a roe in the crosshairs, thought about it and did not pull the trigger.
Essentially I bought the 30.06 for the humane knock down power on the big species and it does that with gusto, however my .243 will always be my go to for roe and smaller.
The 30.06 is a fantastic calibre, so will be interested to gain info/ see opinions from other users to see if lighter/heavier grain rounds have the same devastating effect.
Watching with interest.

Mild 165 grain load will be easier on carcasses than a full throttle 150gr bullet.
Have one for the hill but od use it for roe on occasion. I like Federal Powershock 125g. Seem to be pretty consistent and fairly priced / available. Never had issue with excess damage on Roe. Great for dropping stags/hinds. A couple of yrs ago there was a drought of this bullet so I bought the same but in 150g. Equally fine, couple of clicks up on the scope. Via practice on targets my findings are if zero’d at 100 yards, the drop is 5 inches at 200 yards. Enjoy!

I've not long moved from 308 to 30-06, but due to work and variation etc , haven't shot anything with it yet. I think if you are happy with the damage your 308 did, then just download the 30-06 to perform similarly. As above, a mild 165 would be good. Although, on that note, I found a 165 partition to be much less damaging than a 165 Gameking.
I've seen roe shot with a 150 Gameking doing 2950mv, and it's wasn't pretty.

30-06 is a great calibre and capable of anything apart from DG. RWS DK 165 grain worked well for me on everything from Muntjac to Red Stags on the hill.

I have a .308 and a 30-06 and shoot the same bullet to the same affect 150 grain to 180 grain and the damage is exactly the same, the 30-06 being a fast .308
Personally I would recommend the Sako 85 finnlight with an SL5i moderator, Z6i scope and a 150 grain bullet that your rifle likes.

I use my 06 on everything from munties up to red.
165gr interlocks doing 2,700fps.
Job done.
Like every thing if you don't put it in the right place it makes a mess.
I did shoot a roe buck with Nosler 150gr BT once. I threw away from halfway down the carcuss to the front.
I shot 4 foxes with it one evening. Gralloched them at the same time. Never used that bullet again.

I use 130 gr barnes ttxs at about 3100 fps for everything from roe to reds. They are a bit anti social to buy, so alternatively you can use a 165/180 gr at 2500-2600. Brock and Norris had good video on you tube about this is you can find it. All about bullet selection.

Use 30.06 for everything from munties upto boar. Absolutely no issue with meat damage on stalked deer. I use 165gr rws dk on all quarry slow and hard hitting. Very minimal meat damage.

Incidentally I use the same round now in my K95 single shot .308 165gr DK and it’s great. I changed from 136gr green evo as I was getting massive meat damage with the lighter grain. Good luck

Never had any trouble with 165 grain federal fusion.
great calibre, I use 165 or 180gn sierra game kings driven slow, good knockdown and little meat damage. as always with meat damage its about bullet design, velocity and placement, drive a 150gn frangible bullet fast out of a 30-06 and it will definitely be catastrophic in terms of meat lost!
started testing 180gn RWS H mantel at the moment as my Schultz shows a preference for them accuracy wise, hear good reports from European friends on them but will have to see.
