308 ammo for Bergara B14 Crest

Good evening all,

Looking for advice / experiences on factory ammo.
Got a new rifle coming in, a .308 Bergara B14 (square) Crest. Steel barrel version.

Wondering if anyone has found any factory ammo brands, types, weights etc that the B14 Crest or at least B14 barrel / action family work well with?

The Bergara website only lists match bullets, and I’m hoping there might to some knowledge out here to save me buying lots of different loads. Could find any specific threads on here, but I am new to the forum.

Happy to hear any thoughts, lead and non lead options. Use case is stalking / hunting.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

1 in 10 twist barrel so anything around 150 grains weight should work.

However…

What brands are readily available locally to you? No point in finding it shoots x brand into half an inch if it’s a half day round trip to buy a box.

Good points. Where I’m picking the rifle up from doesn’t have loads in currently. Got wapiti , s and b ammo, Hornady Black AMax (contentious subject on here it seems, so will only look at that round for target).
Anywhere is a bit of drive anyway so rather get the right stuff.

Have a look and see if they sell Hornady 150gr Whitetail ammunition, it's really good stuff and not expensive.

I have the Bergara Carbon Wilderness Thumbhole varient, B14 action.

It would shoot sako 123 grain and 150 grains pretty well, inch groups. Federal Fusion 150 grain much the same.

Have since started home loading for the Bergara, 130 grain Barnes TTSX, consistently getting .4" groups with those and a 125 grain Nosler bullet & Virtus 140 grain Egales into .6" groups. Testing a further batch of these tomorrow!

I’ve got two B14’s both shoot Sako ammo very very well. You have to pay a premium for them though

This. Sako and Nosler work well for me but I match my bullets to my quarry first and then find quality makes. Sako blade and Nosler Ecostrike group better than lead alternatives for me but all minute of deer, in my B14 Hunter. Looking a the Square Crest myself. Let us know how you get on.

All, thanks for the comments. I’ll look to get some options in the 150grain. Sako also seem to be common theme so I’ll with them as certain. Luckily there are in stock locally too.

I don’t have a bergara, but I find federal fusion 150grs very good for fallow. Great knock down power.
Might be worth a go.

Just bought a Bergara carbon wilderness thumbhole in.308 having trouble getting a bullet to group you recommend the sako 123/150 or federal fusion 150 . Are you still using the same

I only shoot home loads now, I think it took a fair bit of "shooting in" initially. But it seemed to shoot the 123 and 150 grain Sako Gameheads well enough, 1 inch groups at 100.

But with home loads it's a .5" gun at 100 yards consistently.

I have since changed the stock to a MDT Fieldstock which has helped again.

Take the usual steps, check mounts, rail, action screws etc.
