.308 or .270

If most of your shots are under 200 yards, .308 Win zeroed at 150; if over 200 yards, a .270 zeroed at 225.

Barrel shorter than 22 inches on a bolt action, .308 Win.
24-inch barrel, .270 Win.

I see both exits are out through the offside jaw. Do you aim for the centre mass of the head when headshooting? It's a shot that I have never attempted.

I normaly aim at a point just in front of the ear

The hanging deer you can see the exit woond due to the angle of shot. You cant see the entry wound as it was inside the fluff of the opposing ear

But this was a 308. The 243 blows half the head off on the exit side

The spiker I posted earlier is the entry wound (243) and was low and to the left of aim point but the point was it was a BT and hit bone so the exit side was a total mess nothing could survive

For obvious reasions I dont have many exit wound photoes but hers one you can zoom in on. Entry point is in front of the ear on the other side and it took most of the top of its head off

I'd not discount head shooting, but generally I'd consider the risk of things going bad much lower from a front or rear shot. Side on head shots make any mistakes more likely to result in injury (shot off jaw etc), in my opinion. Not a criticism, just something to consider.....
