Hi guys this is my first post on the site. I’m looking at a Tikka t3x 22-250 and noticed they have a 1:8 twist. It would mainly be for foxing and 50gr vmax seem to be easily available. I don’t want to go down the reloading route just yet. Can anyone tell me if these would be fine in the tikka or should I look at something with a slower twist for the 50gr. Thanks

Should work okay but a slower twist would be better if your not going to use heavy for calibre bullets. Jmo.

I’m running 53gr v-max in a 1-8 22-250 with excellent accuracy.

Are they factory loads? I can’t seem to find any 53gr for 22.250. I use them in my 1:8 223 and they perform very well
No not factory. It was very easy to find a load though.
The 53gr are longer than 55gr as crazy as that may sound.
You don’t need to worry about over spinning modern bullets.

As for the load that works for me 20” barrel. Rounds loaded to fit in a tikka magazine. Haven’t a clue what the length is or any juno from lands. Groups are three touching at 100m.

Winchester brass. Neck run through a die for concentricity on first load. No chamfer for time saving. This is a hunting rifle not bench rest rifle.
The rifle hates PPU ammunition and wouldn’t shoot it for shite.
I’ve had great feed back for federal blue box in all calibres if shooting factory.

I thought most tikka rifles chambered in 22-250 came in 1:14 twist rate and only found the Super Varmint can come with either 1:14 or 1:8 but it took some searching.
So, out of interest and potentially looking for one myself, Which tikka have you found that cones in 1:8 when chambered in 22-250?
There is a lovely Tikka T3x Ace Game in 22-250 that's 1:14 in classified ads that's nearly new.
My apologies, I rang up about it this morning and spoke to a different person who confirmed the one I’ve been looking at is in fact a 1:14. I’ve since looked around this morning and yes they all seem to be 1:14. If you see any 1:8 also let me know please

downside is they're just shy of £1900 at most outlets and I guess your RFD would have to special order the 1:8 and I've no idea of the lead time for one. I didn't realise it would so much faff for a faster twist tikka in 22-250 and that it's easier, quicker, to go down the semi custom route with a tikka T3 action. Now I'm deciding, if I go down the semi custom route, if to even bother with the 22-250 (even though I've just bought the dies for it), or put a variation for the 22 creedmoor! Can buy better quality brass easier for the 22 Creedmoor than the 22-250 too! Crazy.

I hadn’t really considered a custom or a different calibre. I don’t reload (not yet anyway) so just wanted the simplicity of a factory gun shooting factory ammo for now. I’ll enquire about a custom and go from there thanks guys
There's nowt wrong with the 1-14 twist 22/250. Mine is the rifle I take most out of the cabinet. 55 grain Sierra sp going 3600fps or lighter ones going a tad faster, they don't bounce off. It even shoots the Barnes TTSX 50g to the same poi. I must be lucky, as it'll shoot the TTSX with the tips in place, but I pull them as it apparently helps with expansion. It'll also shoot the 53g Vmax! GASP!!!
I'll have to say that these are my home loads, but the rifle shoots excellently with factory 50g Vmax, 52g Norma SP and the excellent Sako factory stuff. As above, when I think about it, the only rounds it didn't like were PPU.

As you're planning on shooting 50gn then the standard 1:14 will be perfect for your needs
There's plenty of factory ammunition available for the 22-250 that suits a 14 twist.
I'm your shoes, I'd just get an off the shelf factory Tikka rifle and enjoy shooting it.
The 22 Creedmoor needs homeloading. I homeload anyway so it's no bother what cartridge I go for, I'll be handloading anyway.
I just like the extra energy from a 60gn to 77gn bullet, hence I need faster than 1:14
Yep that looks like the route I’m going down for now. I just saw the 1:8 and thought it would be a nice all rounder allowing for a wide range of ammo.
