I also begrudge buying shooting related tech that will be outdated in a year or two post purchase.

This is why my main rifle has a glass scope. I figured that I still shoot 2/3 of my deer in daylight. A good glass scope should last 35-40 years. It will see me out.

You say avoid the Mauser/ Blaser weapons. I have a Mauser MO3 in 6.5x55 and it has a 1/8.7” twist and a 21” barrel. I must be honest and say it’s done very well so far. Shot sika too.

I really wanted the thermal clip ons to be the one but it seems they all shift zero

A friend who solely shoots deer as his income bought a top end thermal and it ended up costing him money in regards to missing out on deer because it was a bad unit

I shoot Sika with among other things.. a 6.5 Grendel
Stick it in the right place and they dont like it
Keep the range sensible and match point of impact to bullet construction
