6.5 Creedmoor 95g VMAX OAL

143 ELDX 2.810" OAL. I'm looking to reload with 95 grain VMAX which is much shorter bullet head, getting enough bullet in the neck for field use looks like OAL of 2.640" OAL. This is quite a jump to lands. Has anyone tried 95 grain VMAX in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have seen a couple of posts on line on other sites but nothing extensive. Ballistics should be similar to 58 grain 243, but slightly better in the wind and more energy. I have a Blaser R8 so I can swap scope/143 ELDX for deer to thermal/95 VMAX and carry on for fox, well that's the plan.... Any experience would be appreciated...?

I'm not sure they will be anywhere near each other in terms of speed.

Looking at max of 3300fps for the 95gr vmax ,where as the 243 can push them at 37-3900 with the correct load work up.

Firstly, it's not a head, it's a bullet.

Secondly, stick to the load data COAL and use it, I doubt you will get anywhere near the lands with the 95g. The reality is, there's no point in kissing the lands anyway. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with a good jump

Thanks and good point. I've been running the 243 at 3514fps (20" barrel) for 10 years +, but I'm running out of powder. Creedmoor will run at 3218fps, difference in time of flight 0.01s at 200m and I prefer to always shoot well within point blank range at night, creedmoor edges it in the wind by a whisker and the drop in virtually the same 3mm difference at 200mm. 243 is 1590ft.lbs., at the muzzle against the 6.5 @ 2185ft.lbs., should I be a touch off the mark. Main advantage is I can carry scope in my pack and switch over on the Blaser, which is something that suits me for a number of reasons. I've had some helpful responses from the USA on the OAL and there doesn't seem to be an issue, but always good to have a variety of helpful friendly opinions. Thanks again for your reply.

I dont run this bullet in a creed , i run many similar 100 grain etc in the 260 rem though ( still a 6.5 ) . Always seat a bullet a calibre deep into the case minimum , these type of bullets are of course made to be jump friendly indeed nearly all hunting bullets are jump friendly ( Yes just like that 58 grain 243 job)

Thanks, that makes sense

I shoot this bullet in my 6.5 Creedmoor for foxing and load to the book length 2.640. They shoot sub moa...

Adequate for what I need 👍🏻

Load a dozen up and try them. I think too much fuss is made with measuring jump to lands, if hornady print it as ok it’s good enough for me 😁

Hornady have revised the oal in the 11th edition of their loading manual and reduced it to 2.600. An even bigger jump to the lands...

Presumably the factory loaded rounds use this oal and work ok?

95gr VMax 2.67” OAL in 22” 6.5creed with 44.5gr Big Game very accurate and going just over 3000fps

I am about to load some of these for testing at the weekend, Quicklod shows RS60 will get 95’s to 3400-3450 with safe pressures and a big jump.
