6.5 creedmoor or .270 pros and cons

Toss a coin.

Have a look to see what type of rifles are available, what you feel comfortable with and what fits. And then what ammo is locally stocked. Far more important that a rifle fits than what calibre it is. Those with 6.5 CM will give you all the benefits of the 6.5CM, ditto for those with a 270. And everybody else will chip in with what they use.

If it’s the same rifle flip a coin.

Both calibres are great and put holes in deer. Be that fallow or little muntjac. The rounds are readily available if you google it.

If not choose the rifle as per what @Heym SR20 has suggested. It’s what rifle fits you and not the one that’s available. Only you can make decide.

Lead free factory ammo availability will be a considerable factor unless you plan to homeload...
Recoil from the 270 is more than the creedmoor ..
I love the 270.... was my only deer caliber for quite a few years... but having to go lead free I changed to creedmoor and 308 purely because of factory ammo availability in lead free... I can't be bothered homeloading these days and for work h&s says factory ammo anyway.

The 270 is superb.... wish it had more ammo choice that rfds can actually get

I’ve used both extensively. You could choose one at random and be perfectly happy.

.270 does have substantially more energy, and will cause markedly more damage at short range. It has more recoil, but with a moderator, this is not noticeable. It drops less, but the difference is small over standard stalking ranges (around 6-7cm at 300m, which is so little that you need to be shooting around 0.5MOA groups to notice a difference). It has marginally more wind drift (again, around 8-9 cm in a 15km side wind and 300m).

It’s probably now easier to find a diversity of ammunition for 6.5CM, but you will never not be able to find .270 ammo.

Probably not what you want to hear, but it doesn’t matter which you choose.

I’ve never really understood this. How come there’s this odd internet fascination with Creedmoors? Seems to be the only cartridge that attracts such abuse?
It just me being silly. A good friend has a creed but I don't hold it against him 👍🏻😁

Personally I’d slightly favour 6.5 as higher twist is better for non toxic bullets…. But both are great

Thanks for the reply, I have heard the .270 dose kick more but liking the sound of the 6.5cm at the moment

A little, but not signifcant and quite frankly, if you are focussing on the recoil when shooting at something live, then there is more to address. Moderated, the .270 is mild, even more so with a thick jacket on.

Thanks for the sensible reply I will bear it in mind

Any fullbore sporter weight rifle recoils but you will feel it more if you shoot them from a bench without precautions.
To chose based on so called kick is a bit sissy!
In the field with a firm hold you add mass to the rifle reducing recoil. Lightly held at a bench the rifle is going to run into you.
When at the bench just put a magazine or newspaper in your jacket to stop the recoil.

The recoil doesn’t bother me, and I intend to put a moderator on either one anyway, it’s I heard a few people bringing up about recoil but with out shooting one one you just take there word for it

With a moderator, it’s not even slightly an issue.

Not in the top 20 things to consider when choosing a gun.

I have both. 6.5 is by far my favourite as it’s so easy to shoot and I feel very comfortable with it.

I think the cm is better on the smaller deer less mess but the 270 is imho better if you’re shooting stuff and want it to anchor a deer on the spot. It just seems to hit harder.

If you wanted to target shoot as well then it would be a clear case for the 6.5 but suspect that’s not the case.

Either way both good but if I had to chose one I would go 6.5 route.
