6.5 PRC?

Shoot a 65prc as my main stalking gun. Not exactly light at 11.5lbs but fantastically accurate, very very manageable recoil and just a very versatile round. Have shot it out to a mile with success.

Wallop your shoulder? Mines a pleasure to shoot, very low recoil.

Everybody: I use the term "wallop" as a figure of speech, for goodness' sake.

It reflects the fact that the 6.5 PRC uses considerably more powder to drive a bullet of equivalent weight than, say, my 6.5 x 55mm.

I have never yet shot a deer out to my self-imposed maximum of 200 yards and thought, "You know, I wish the exit hole were head-size, not just fist-size."

We live in a (reasonably) free country, however, so if a 1,000-yard rifle is what the OP wants then go for it, say I.

Sounds great tbh. I do prefer the 130 weight range. All the 6.5’s seem geared more towards heavy for caliber which in say the Swede, I find a little loopy . But maybe 130 in PRC would just be messy.

Difference in perceived recoil due to different powders and burn rates? Assuming similar rifle builds/weights
I use 130g sierra gamechangers in my PRC. Absolutely brilliant bullet that does the trick and still allows me to reach out and touch things...
Soft recoil, flat shooting and drops anything it hits on the spot. Certainly less felt recoil that a 270 but in fairness, it's been a while since I've shot a 270

I use a 270w almost daily. I also have a 6.5-284 which is probably the neatest thing to a 6.5 prc. If I had the coice I would not use the 270w because:-

The 6.5-284 is more accurate
The 6.5-284 bucks the wind better
The 6.5-284 is easier to shoot and in almost all cases the strike can be seen.

The only advantage the 270w has is you can find ammunition easier for it.

If I were to buy a new rifle today it woul probably be one of the prc, either 6.5, 7mm or 300

It’s not a 300 win mag though! It’s similar ballistically to stuff folk are already using.

I too like to get to within 200 yards and have used a Swede a lot, but if something will reach out further with ease, I’ll use it. Certainly wouldn’t touch a .22lr over a .17hmr for example but I know that will also split opinions

Cheers folks. Certainly sounds like it’s 1) coming more popular 2) has good results as well. Certainly if I go down the route of T3 action and a PSE stock build, I think I’ll go PRC. It was either that or another .270 anyway

Bear in mind, unless you get a T3 magnum donor, your chosen 'smith will need to address the bolt face and extractor mod. I believe this is not a problem to some.

My next rebarrel will be a 7mm,I have a T3 300wm currently.
What flavour I don’t know.

When the 6.5 284 barrel dies it may just be a like for like re barrel or 6.5 prc.
I don’t believe there’s much between the two asides from easier sourcing of brass/factory ammo.

I’ll run it past them. I’m just pulling it all together at the moment. Thought it would make more sense to build on a (£300?) action and add a barrel and PSE stock vs buying new from a shop and then playing about with it?

Only occasionally used a .270 so am unable to reliably comment on its abilities.
As for the 6.5 PRC, in my opinion, a super cartridge. Yes it does recoil, but more of a push than anything else, totally manageable but then I only use it with a mod on. Have had several shoulder surgeries, the recoil is not a problem.
Use it for both long range targets and stalking. The most accurate ammo, i’ve found, being YewTree 114 grain TLR over Vit N165, not yet found lead to match, makes for expensive target shooting though.
Goes without saying that this combo performs superbly on deer, though a bit brutal on the smaller ones.

Which part? To be fair, this was on a Ron Spomer video. There’s not much in it between the .270 and PRC. Although I wouldn’t be jumping to the 150 grain bullet so maybe it’s not really comparing like for like in real life.

130 grain in .270 would be a better comparison
