6.5 x 284 for Stalking

Hi All.

Similar question to many really, looking down the list. But has any one got any experience or views on the 6.5 x 284 for stalking. I know it’s an accurate round and I am home loading so trying to buy factory ammo is not a problem.

Thanks for your ideas and views.

Can't see why it wouldn't be a great stalking round. I suppose the actual rifle it is chambered in is more relevant than the actual cartridge. I wouldn't want to haul an F Class rifle around after deer.

Performance on deer with a suitable bullet is going to be very similar to a 270win.

Just a thought, have you looked at the .284 which is the parent case to the 6.5 - 284. I don't have one, nor a 6.5 but the numbers look good.

Check out 6mmbr website. some impressive results coming with the ability to use heavier bullets. Bit of a pain to get ammunition (even cases seem to be best created out of necked up 6.5 - 284 brass but if your home loading........

Thanks all for your info. Seems like it could be a nice round to try and see how i get on. Thanks for your feed back will let you know how i get on.

A little late into the discussion, but yes I do use a 6.5x284 for stalking, it works very well indeed on all sized UK deer.

Tend to use 130 - 140 g bullets, barrel life should not be worthy of consideration if you use it soley as a stalker.
