6.8mm SPC (II?)

This came roaring onto the scene a few years back while I was at the SHOT shot in Las Vegas. Remington said it was the next US military loading. Never happened. I have a friend who hunts with and AR-15 chambered for this. Not really impressive kills. Not a large selection of bullets. Kind of a market dud.~Muir

Can you see its offspring, .22 Valkyrie, going the same way? Can't see any advantage over a custom barrelled fast twist 22-250!

It was based on the old .30 Remington cartridge as the parent case. Apparently the standard thirty round magazine for the M16 or AR15 holds, by happy accident, twenty rounds of 6.8mm SPC. MUIR can perhaps confirm this as true or not?

Well of course there is....if you live in a place where AR15's are legal. In a small bolt gun like a 527 CZ it might be a gas, too, but for a regular sized bolt gun you are probably right.~Muir

yes. The armored at FT Bragg were playing around with new cartridges, and saw that some civilians were experimenting with the .30 Rem. The problem was, what bullet, and brass availability.

Remington HQ is only a few hours away, so Remington cooked up some new bullets and helped them.

Special Forces took a good number of rifles to Afghanistan to evaluate. Better than the 5.56, but not as much as wanted.

In a bolt action, the .257 Roberts offers more of everything.

After the initial interest , it died a quiet death in my area . It didn't really capture any market share . It's like the Remington SAUM's , they were decent rounds too , but couldn't compete with other new , or pre-existing cartridges .

Well, after a bit more digging I read an article about the NGSW-R (Next Generation Squad Weapon-Rifle) and it intimates that the 6.8 might come to fruition as a replacement for the 5.56 SAW and AR.

Looking at my reloading programme, yes it does seem a little better than the 5.56 (not difficult!) but I was hard pushed to produce anything fantastic and in fact left me feeling it was a bit laclustre? Seems to me the 6.5 Grendal would be better?

No doubt some bureaucrat will change the calibre one day and then we'll change the rifle to another piece of sh1t!

I believe that the next gen weapon may be a 6.8mm however they dont intend on it being SPC but something altogether more radical.
