6 br barrel length

Pending approval ,I will be having a 6br built.
The rifle will be used for woodland stalking, shooting 105-109gr bullets. Recently watched a video on youtube about Tikka Bushmaster with 16" barrel, I'm wondering now how short could the barrel be on a 6br?

I hope you are ok? A 6br is an amazing calibre I would realistically go for a barrel length that you are comfortable moving around; I would not go too long because it will be cumbersome when you are hunting. I would go for 20 - 22in. Also Yew Tree do a good NLA bullet do a 6mm. This is why I would go for a longer barrel so you keep some speed so you would get bullet expansion.

Mine was a 1in8 twist 22" LW tube.It was pushing out 105 Amax & 95gr TMK's around 2950-2970fps with Varget.
I changed to 87gr Vmax over 31grs of N135,they were running @ 3070fps.
Great calibre,enjoy👌

Mine is 30” - it’s by no means a woodland stalking rifle

As others have said, 1:8 twist required for the bullet weights you refer to, especially if you’re going NLA.

I’d say 20-22” would be a good length.

Good to see someone else going for such an under recognised cartridge - the furthest fallow I’ve ever shot out on the fields was with my 6mmBR, there were two of them & they were a bit of a drag as it was winter wheat & I couldn’t drive on it.

My br has a 26" pipe on it. Heavier bullets run well in a 7.5 twist but be mindful you will loose velocity with a short barrel. Shortest I personally have seen is 22 and it was way slower than mine. 24" would be a good compromise
