Morning everyone thinking of getting a 6br spun up in the new year never had a short barrel 6 br looking for opinions on a 22” 1-7 with 109eldm . Will mainly be for 600yds and in but occasionally might go out further I’m wanting it short to go in a bag with mod on
Cheers

Had a very similar rifle built for deer stalking/range use. It performs very well although I am using Hornady 103g eldx. I tried to specify it for dual purpose, but in truth it is too heavy for stalking, especially as I ordered it with an AICS floorplate, heavy barrel and ASE Utra.
It is very handy on the range though and it’s hard not to find accurate loads with very low recoil but for pure range use I have many more dedicated rifles so choose your specification wisely.

@BE Precision, Gary might be able to help you out with this.

I am shooting 105 scennars with 30 ish grains N150 from a 26” barrel at 2850fps.

If you want a shorter barrel I would recommend a 6mm Creedmoor. It’s fastly become my go to rifle. 20” barrel shooting at the same speed at the 6mmbr.

Although there is something special about the 6mmbr it really needs a longer barre.

Building three at the moment

I was going for something similar but TVP wouldn't allow it for dual purpose..... seems 6 calibres already for field use is quite enough thank you....

So went full target with it as a 6mm BRA and a 1:7.5 twist 27 inch heavy barrel.

Will hopefully get it back on for foxing..... but as it is in a chassis and has a great big bloody long lump of steel attached to the block.....it may make it a bit unwieldy for stalking.

I had a 22" 1in8 LW barrel on my 6Br which I sold this year.
It was chambered for 105 Amax they were doing around 2800fps with 30.6 grs of Varget & 95gr TMK with 30.7grs of Varget.
I ended up using 87gr Vmax 31grs of N135 @3070fps.
A very user friendly calibre with great performance for very little powder.

Got the tooling for 6br and a lovely 1:7” Bartlein “Sendero” profile barrel here ready to go. Last one i built was 28” but i don't see 22” being problematic, it’s quite a small case.

i run a 6BRA with a 26" barrel. 109 eld m at 2780 fps with 30gn n150. Shorter barrel I would go with the bra for a bit more velocity. Fireforming loads are about as accurate as you'll ever get out of it!

A 6mmbr punches well above its powder capacity when using a 24-26” barrel. The low recoil and inherent accuracy is on another level.

I find they don’t eject well from a standard short action with plunger ejectors due to the short case. I’m not saying they don’t eject, just the power is reduced due to the angle of the case neck on the inside of the action wall reducing pressure before it is released.

This is why I’ve turned to the 6mm creedmoor for a 20” barrel mag fed rifle. Accuracy is still excellent and recoils negligible with a silencer.

Are they stalking or target rifles?

I don’t fully understand the niche they fill?

One destined for “hard to reach” foxes

The other two for “foxes with antlers” north of the border

That was a reference used by a well known deer removal gentleman from the late eighties working in that region 😂 who’s quarry was primarily roe deer (so all legal with the calibre before any critique delivered by some quarters)

The 6BR is very much a niche precision delivery system and other cartridges now offer similar performance and accuracy today

Yet remains a popular choice for the person interested in home loading, accuracy and being a little left field

The 6BR would seem anaemic compared to the .243, but then the 6BR would be running on <30 grains of powder compared to the .243’s 40+ grains.
