6x45 excitement

@A Guy Out West the PAC Nor barrel shoots alright - from 62 - 105gr so far. See below target from yesterday's attempts at 100m with 62gr GSC, 80gr blitz & 90gr TGK.

The 90gr Sierra Gamechangers were loaded in PPU brass with 23gr Viht N133 and CCI BR4 primers. Finally shot a couple over the chrony and they're going at about 2550 fps or so. 1" high at 100m should have them zeroed at about 140m, 2" low at 175m, 4" low at 200m (2100 fps). Let's see how they do on Roe.

That was a great read. Must have missed it somehow the first time around! There's something fun about shooting quirky cartridges, it's good to see it worked out well for you. Shame it won't do 1750ft-lbs but I'd imagine that was never a serious consideration and rather just a potential possibility?

It will get better with every shot, until it doesn’t.

I really like the look of the 6x45, but can you get enough velocity to meet the energy requirements of 1700ft lbs (1750 ft lbs in Scotland or is it the other way around) to make it large deer legal.

If 243 is marginal in shorter barrels, I'd say no way. The 90gr / 2550fps load on top of page gives 1300ft lbs.

No, mine is a 1500 ft.lb rifle at best. I don't see the point of very long barrels or excessive pressure to try and achieve more energy.

I'd be looking at 7.62x40WT / 300 HAM'R, or possibly 6.5 or 7mm TCU to squeeze 1750 ft.lb out of a 223 based cartridge.

In other words it’s a perfect Roe, CWD and Muntjac cartridge. And perfect for a lightweight pottering about rifle. :)

I had a Contender barrel in 6.5 TCU sold it on with the dies and got a 6.5 JDJ one from SSK which has a very accurate Shilen tube.
