6XC or 6mm Creedmoor?

I’m a very happy 6XC owner. Easy to load for, great for heavy target bullets or copper but also sends 70gr BT at 3690 fps for fox duty. Norma brass very good quality but other good options available. When this barrel dies it will be replaced with another 6XC,

To add to my previous post;

I forgot I did initially start hand loading for 6mm creedmoor before an accident I had, following this, it’s just been easier to buy factory ammunition.

The point being I was using my 6.5 creedmoor FL neck bushing dies with the bush from my 6mm br dies. I use a neck mandrel for neck tension and also the 6.5 creedmoor seating die with no issue and achieved more than adequate accuracy.

It saved me a few hundred pounds a decent die set costs now days.

Just something to consider if you already have 6.5 creedmoor tools on hand.

You can also neck down 6.5 creedmoor brass if needs be and it’s readily available for a lot less than 6XC. I know once fired brass is a controversial subject but I really don’t mind it on a field gun when brass gets lost in long grass.

I have a fast twist 243

Home loaded it gets good results on red hinds

Factory is pretty poor and I wouldn't use that on large species like red

Cant personally see what the 6xc and creed has over it apart from hard to get brass

Brass isn't hard to get.

Not as easy as a 243, but that's stating the obvious.

Would I get a fast twist 243 over a 6mmXC?
No not if I already had the 6mmXC

Both are playing the same game.

XC is easy to load for and in the ones I’ve built your looking at accuracy in the .2’s with ease

Supremely capable and effective killing tool allowing surgical accuracy at distance you’re comfortable with

XC is not a barrel burner like 243 win or creedmoor as slightly less powder capacity

Very efficient - 115 dtac at 2950 - easy and proven in my gun in comps out to 1100 mtrs

That would be my choice (and is) for the sole 6mm I own

Are you saying you would not use 243 on reds 😂

Another to think about and might not be just as ‘Fashionable’ is the 6x47 Lapua.
It requires necking down 6.5x47 brass but 3000 fps is achievable with a 105 grain bullet and only 40 grains of powder with single digit extreme spread.
Not saying that it’s better but in my experience of having one it’s not to be overlooked either.

There is also 6GT which is about the same size as 6XC but lapua do brass for it.

So many options and to be honest they all do the job very well and you can’t go wrong. You just have to be confident in whatever decision you make and commit to shooting it out because resale value is pretty much nil now days.

My 6mmXC will be going nowhere.
I would happily have it as my only rifle.

From Roe to red stags it's been surgical. (I used it solely for about 8 months while my 6.5PRC was being built)

Like you say they all work and work well.

Just put a fast twist 243 barrel on and get the smith to throat it for your favourite bullet. Got that on my AI. The other two aren’t going to give me anything it can’t and with 243 I can run factory when I feel like it.

if I was going to change that it would be for a Dasher.

I really like my 6XC and it’s easy to get Norma brass and also super easy to convert Lapua 6 creedmoor brass to 6xc if you like to have Lapua brass. To reload its very simple to find accurate loads with bullets from 70-105gr.
