7mm prc

I have a slot for a 7mm prc and have been looking to get one. I have been told by a good friend that there is a few issues with pressure and they need cleaning more than normal something to do with the right tolerances and there is little space for the neck to expand and any carbon build up causes pressure issues quicker than normal has anyone heard anything about this?

I am considering a 7mm build

From what I can glean it doesn’t offer anything above and beyond what’s already out there and proven

Other than Hornady backing and the likely availability of parts.

No idea but probably true, I’ve just ordered a Bergara wilderness in HMR, one of the design features on the 300 is tight freebore, 8 thou from memory. The idea being it aids accuracy with long, high BC bullets, as they can’t yaw as they apparently do with the 300 win mag.

Makes sense they designed the 7 around the same principle.

I have one, Tikka T3x rebarelled to 7mm PRC by Steve Kershaw, action in an MDT ESS chassis. Shooting 180gn ELDM's at just under 3000ft/sec, Peterstone brass, RS76 powder, CCI large rifle magnum primers. No issues whatsoever, just spectacular accuracy, and with a Dolphin guns muzzlebrake the perceived recoil is down to 223 levels.

Dunno about the problem but allegedly the chamber specs are a bit tighter on the 'modern' cartridges ie 65CM onwards. More qualified people on here will have a definitive view

Should be able to work out if there is any truth to this from here: 7mm PRC SAAMI spec

Case OD 8.05mm, chamber ID taper from 8.10mm to 8.08mm - so "tight" but not a jam fit.

Some magnums are prone to the dreaded carbon ring. I believe this is due to the type of powder used. I suffered it in my 7mm SAUM, I put it down to the barrel being at the end of life. It’s worth keeping an eye on and scrubbing the neck where it meets the freeboor.
