7x57

I have a 7x57R, single shot rifle. Love it, though to be honest, it’s a bit of a Sunday best rifle that I hardly use. Fantastic caliber but as @stevec says, limited ammunition availability. No problem for me though as I reload.

I used to have one and my wife now has one.

They will do anything in the UK without any fuss and there are lots of reasonably priced rifles for sale.

The only downside is ammunition availability.

Thanks for the reply no worries about the ammunition as I reload.

I find the reload data a bit conservative. Maybe something to do with the old actions on these Guns historically? Someone more educated on the matter than I may be able to advise on this though.

The load data for R rimmed cases is always a bit lower pressure than their counterparts mainly due to the actions that they were traditionally used in.

hello mate, yes i use it, and so do quite a few others on here, and i think ,most quite happily indeed.

If you reload, and have a modern strength action in your rifle, then i suggest checking out the Norma reloading data for the 7x57, which seems far from anaemic and suited for modern rifles: 7x57 MAUSER | Reloading Data for hand loading ammunition
Of course use good reloading practice, and work up loads carefully etc.

welcome to the club, and happy hunting! :stag:

Just sold mine and TBH it was a hard decision but my 6.5x55 does everything and can't use them both so it's gone but if I ever needed another cal for and all rounder it would be near the top of the list .

I had a 7x57R combi gun. Brilliant cartridge for the UK. More than enough power to put down any game humanely but still very pleasant to shoot.

Just in the process of buying my first, shot .708 for years but sold it some time ago now after I lost my red stalking. Probably one of my biggest regrets as it was super accurate.
I saw a 7x57 advertised on here recently and I've bit the bullet so to speak.

I’ve had several 7x57’s the first was a Ruger 77R tang safety gun and later I had one in a Ruger 77R MK-II . Had another in a Ruger #1A and I might add all three did plenty well enough with handloads . Later I bought a brand new Kimber 89BGR Grand American that was absolutely gorgeous except I n their infinite wisdom they cut the chamber oversize . I’ve had two drillings and a combo gun that were in 7x57R that were fine again with handloads . And finally at present I have a Mannlicher Schoenauer MCA stutzen that I really really like . Good to know thank you, loads data seems to vary so much.
