I think you missunderstand me, you stated that you wanted to duplicate the Norma load because it was expensive and you did say that you didn't shoot that much ammo in 8x57. obviously if you start wanging a few bullets about then reloading is cheaper. I love the fact that if i feel like shooting rabbits with my centrefires then at least it doesn't cost me the earth.
How do you work up a load for a double? do you fire a round from each barrel and pick the load with the smallest difference between the 2 rounds or do you fire groups from each barrel, i'm just curius i've no experience of doubles.

I've been testing by firing 2 rounds from each barrel at 50m which is the distance the rifle is regulated for. Because the barrels are thin and due to the construction it is necessary to allow some time for the rifle to cool, so it is a slow process. I usually have two seperate two shot groups, it doesn't matter where they are on the target as I can adjust the sights later to match point of impact. After a few loads you start to see a pattern developing and hopefully the two groups start to get closer together.
Too dateI have obtained reasonable convergence of shots but nothing as good as the Norma load which is my benchmark, the load that the rifle was regulated to. The objective is to get two shots from each barrel into a 2" square at 50m and at the same time have the top barrel zeroed for 100yds for use with the scope.
With 8x57irs powder seems to be the issue, with very little data available for powders that are available in the U.K. I've just come across some data on a French site that may be the solution that I am seeking. Of course if I change bullets it's back to square one.

Thanks for the information 300wsm, it fits in with other snipits of info that I have on using Vit powders with heavier bullets. The pressures indicated are within the limits and velocities look about right also. I have access to N140 so will give that a go first. N135 is probably a little too fast so will hold off untill I have tried the N140 loads.
Next on the agenda is Vectan SP7 which I gather from information on a French website is the bees knees for this calibre. This is proving to be a very interesting calibre to load for and the help that I am getting from other shooters like yourself is simply amazing.

I don't know if you have tried varying the seating depth to get the barrels to converge but this could be another option as it can have quite an effect on group size.

This load was developed using Norma semi-pointed, jacketed, soft-point, flat-based bullets (Oryx).
In terms of power, the developer considers this a heavy load.
The velocity measurement is by chronograph.
Winchester cases and Federal LR primers were used in development.
