A stalking directory iPhone app??

I do that with my Garmin Oregon. Take a pic with it's camera - which it geotags - store it in memory to build up a readily accessible record. Also download them to Picasa and add cull data, then link to Google Maps to plot them with the pics and data clickable.Just need to grab a mapping program I can link and print with.I can't see why this and more won't be doable from smartphones - or even iPod Touch that I'm using now on the freebie BT fon network.
Orion, try memory map. It'll work with your garmin and gives you 50k os maps possibly 25k os maps depending on where you live. I've used it before for geotagging trees.

Some types of forum software already integrate with estiblished apps eg tapatalk. I don't know if this is one of them.

Orion, imagine one app on your phone which would do ALL of those things?

I'd envisage a central secure data storage, where people have access to their own data, and to the data of other people who they approve. If you're not approved by the data owner (the person who enters it retains ownership) then you don't see the data.

This could then be used as a source of data for all sorts of purposes. If you had a specific subject you wanted to study, then the owners of the data could be asked by the ap owners to allow access to anonymised relevant data. I can see it being a massively useful tool for anyone interested in deer.

Sounds like a heck of a lot of work!

Another forum that I frequent (arbtalk.co.uk) has started releasing apps for iPods. It got me thinking, a stalking directory app could be a bit of a winner. Could have some deer info for the dsc1 candidates (species recognition, disease ID etc) some info about rifles, (ballistic calculator etc) if you wanted to get into it, you could make use of the iPhone gps stuff and record geotagged photos of killed animals and have a bit of a database to record info about said animal. It'd be quite handy when out in the field to have the mine of information that is stalking directory at your fingertips, particularly for the noobs! Maybe an extension of the deer dog register with your nearest available dog visible on google maps with contact details etc?? Just wanted to clarify who owned the site before I gave my million dollar idea to basc or worse!!

Took 10 years but we believe we’ve addressed all the points in this thread 😂🤣

Eerily accurate when we read this a couple of weeks ago… (see sporting gun article next month!!).

We will open a thread in Stalking General but happy to take any questions on PM.

BASC dropped their app.

BDS, made a huge fanfare over their app, I use it as it gives sun rise/set times.

We are starting to move to a world were you can't buy a coffee without an app.

What does an app offer over a website?

Hi cjm ... good points.

This is a website for the data, visualisation and reporting ... and its application-less (so you dont need an app).
it takes your WhatsApp group messages and turns them into outing reports and data...
you text "On Ground", what you've seen, what you've culled and then "Off ground"... it produces the outing report and adds the data to the data base.
It texts you back with the outing ref and any cull references.

You have a passbook with your Certs on on mobile via the mobile optimised site; same for quick ground reference and checking where your sightings and you are (it plots the sightings in real time) so if you say "50 Red Hinds 650m ssw" it'll show you if they're on ground.

Of our 20 or so trial users 3 never even logged into the online version or mobile ... they just used the WhatsApp reporting to produce their outing reports.

Oh and we have sunrise, sunset and moon phase.

Its bad enough encouraging some to be supporters of the site, and others to pay £10 Trade membership.

I can't see this taking off, maybe for a few, but not many, I would imagine any business has done their market research before investing lots of time and money into this project.
The first thing I would of done is created a poll on this site to see if there was interest, in 2012 this option wasn't available on here I believe.

In my opinion it's not required, I'm not going to put any more data of mine out there unless I have to, this obviously isn't compulsory but just a business venture, good luck to any developer but I can't see this taking off for the individual stalker, be that recreational/professional.
For a large stalking estate/syndicate, or maybe even the FC it might assist them, but will that be sufficient income to maintain any app or similar website?

May we get the basics squared away first please. As in SD cloth insignia (“badges”) with room for forum member name embroidery.

15-years on and still no progress!

😵‍💫I’ll give that a miss for a bit if ok, I've still got a flask and a wee bit of paper to scribble on,but when a water shortage starts up again and the ink wells dry up - it will be considered,

Now where did I put that quill. 🤣🤣

I understand Malc (and Devon)... and we don't want to force this on anyone. However, times are changing in the Deer world ... there is going to be a drive to to having all of these data available. If you look at how much legislation, how many new schemes (game changing schemes) have been launched in the last 12 months. Its moving pretty quickly:
WS1 and WS3
Scottish Season and Thermal/NV
the consultation papers that have been published.
BQWVS.

What we hope is for those who just want to text and have a safety system this is a convenient answer (as thats all you need to to do) and that would be free for syndicate members.

The simple answer is WS1 is worth an enormous amount of money to the landowners ... and in order to get that grant you need these data - which you can either spend hours typing out (and, knowing its not been collected accurately, be subject to audit) or just send in some texts and have it done for you.

exactly @Miki ... so for the price of a couple of coffee's a month we automate all of that away. Whole thing's done including DMP and Stakeholder DMP.
The money in WS1 + WS3 + WD2 can be quite large. (90 + 50 + 100 [simplified]) per hectare per annum.

It's a big ask to get landowners to walk away from that because we don't want to collect some information for them. We're also seeing a lot of previously unstalked ground opening up in order to claim these. So we should see a raft of new permissions opening. On our Deer Management Group we've already brought in 3 new stalkers since April and know we probably need another couple (or one more full time).
