Admin- new law for selling knives online

The Telegraph ran an article I didn’t read headlined to the effect that the Govt intends to ban doorstep knife sales altogether. I’d imagine this would put most, if not all, artisan knifemakers out of business.

I believe it’s two forms of over 18 ID one at sale and one on delivery. I’m assuming it must have to do with the delivery company so hopefully it’ll have little to no effect.

Admin it may be worth verifying the new law and how sellers can be compliant, as there have been some great lots lately and would be a shame to put a stop to it. Maybe face to face or Royal Mail to have an added feature when sending? I’ll leave that to you.

Tougher checks on sale of knives online announced after Southport attack
They should make it a bonded place (just like a gun shop) to collect knives with good reason and ID
etch a bar code (just like on the plastic package )
Firearms have a serial number and linked to xyz with us responsible for them.

Knives are far smaller easy to hide but sadly take lives 24/7

Having seen the commentary in the press, it looks like ID will need to be supplied with each purchase, coupled with some sort of ID verification service and perhaps a video of the purchaser. In addition to the over 18 delivery (which is current) service.

I have to weigh up the potential cost of compliance with the new requirements (DPA, retaining video and ID, etc.) and have taken the decision to clear all the knives hopefully before more rules come in. Larger sellers like Amazon will be able to comply, but that will inevitably restrict the availability and choice to the end consumer. It will also be difficult to get overseas sellers to comply with this.

Make it difficult to get a knife ..
Attackers will move onto something else like hammers ..
What do we do ban hammers ?
This is getting bloody ridiculous !!

Lad had been reported and f*ck all was done ! Yet ANOTHER break down in the system.... it's their f*ck up not ours but we the serfs get the fall out

What could have been interesting is if they made it a face-to-face sale only at an RFD. No online, no supermarkets, no discount stores, etc. Would bring a lot of new customers to gun shops.

Why? Just use standard forms like driving license or passport…
Because there needs to be plenty of legally recognised options.
The "standard forms" that you cite are by no means universal. Nobody is required to have them.
I have come up against this problem recently, while trying to open a new bank account. The only options for photo ID were:
1) Passport. (I have never travelled, so have never needed one).
2) Photo driving licence. (I passed my driving test before the introduction of photo licences, so don't have one).
3) Photo ID card. (What is this thing? I had never even heard of it).

Without one of those forms of photo ID, the application could not progress.
Nobody is legally required to be in possession of any of those documents, so limiting the choice to just those 3 is totally unacceptable.

And if you needed a three hour round trip.?
The politician’s argument would of course be 'if it saves a single life' it's worth it.

I wouldn’t be concerned though, even if the idea where mooted, I don't think they would want to inconvenience themselves and the gen pop too much to go that far. In addition, they would most likely not want to support gun shops.

Of course, something like that may increase business viability for small RFDs with a new income stream. Then you may not have to travel 3hrs as perhaps more local ones would be able to survive. Though I appreciate, there are people who live hours from anyone let alone an RFD!
