Advice about scopes please

I’m thinking of getting a thermal scope.
I currently have a Swarowki Z6i. So, should I get a separate Pulsar Thermion scope and fit my rifle with a rail so I can swop the two when I need to. Or shall I trade my day scope in and get a Thermion Duo.
I would value views if you have experience of swopping day and thermion scopes on a rail - ease, keeping zero, whatever.
Thank you

Don’t get rid of your z6. No NV/thermal will replace your glass day scope - unless you hunt almost exclusively at night
Either buy another night rifle, or buy very high quality repeatable zero qd mounts for a rail

See this as an opportunity to get permission for a other rifle ;)

Don`t get rid of of your Swaro. I swap using Tier One rings and a torque wrench with no loss of zero.
The Pulsar Duo is okay in day mode for fields and open woodland but no good for dense woodland, but if you are interested I will be selling my Duo XP55.

I know many go against the use of them but a good quality front add on may be an avenue to look into?

I used 2 different nv front add ons with zero issues.

The Mate MAE50 is a great unit and picture quality is great even at higher mag ranges.

Best of both worlds then

I have a blaser and swap between Thermion and Z6i and No I wouldn’t get rid of either.

The thermion is useable during early morning, daylight, evening but in no way does it come close to being good enough in daylight.

I would definitely consider a Pulsar Duo though.

If I’m sitting at a fox earth I generally take both scopes and then swap as daylight comes or goes.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I’ll keep the day scope. I want the scope arrangements for a range of situations - a key one being that last half hour or so in the woods when I can see the deer through the spotter but it’s too dark for the day scope.

Hello
May i ask what thermion you have ? i wonder why you cant use it in daylight

Thermion XQ50 pro.

I can use it in daylight but I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy one to use in daylight.

It’s horses for courses.

Each individual will have different situations and expectations of what they want and expect.

From what the OP is looking for I’d recommend a Thermion Duo or the Alpex 4K.

From everything I’ve heard, for that last half hour of dusk. These are the way to go but that’s only what I’ve heard and read.

As MacPherson says: HIK Alpex 4K.
Comes into its own during the last hour of dusk. (Superior to any glass scope at dusk, but inferior to good glass during daylight conditions.)
I use the LRF version for foxing (dusk and nighttime) as the ballistic calculator is a bonus over the Pulsar C50 version I had prior to the Alpex.

Keep your Z6i for daytime.

Use HIK ALpex for dusk.

Good quality picantinny mounts should allow easy changeover between each.

I'm afraid I find the use of any digital/thermal scope quite uncomfortable.

Every time we pull the trigger we take a life. Needs must and all that- and if you do it enough many people become desensitised to what you're doing- its almost inevitable.

But IMO it's vital to see that sentient creature in detail to maintain a bit of humanity and perspective. Anything that detracts from seeing that creature in its natural way makes it easier to desensitise yourself and lose some humanity imo.

The problem with digital scopes is as soon as you up the mag the quarry becomes a blur and you lose something. With thermal you lose recognition of all features.

I totally get how useful thermal is- I use it to spot- and knocking down quarry with one is no doubt incredibly effective.

Whatever you go for no judgement. But IMO it's a major disadvantage/concern I have. Call me a hippie tree hugger if you wish! It's probably the future and inevitable. But it makes shooting feel more of a computer game IMO but the kills are real- but they just don't feel it.

PS- the ad ons look best to me- so you can enjoy the swaro glass. Pards don't like swaro glass- are the thermal ad ons less fussy ??

I was desperate for add on thermal to work for me but absolutely no good with my nightforce fow is way too narrow. Thermtec add on was best I looked at northern shooting show. Personally have nightforce and iray rico on blaser qr mounts with no issues swapping
