Cab,

Welcome to the site.

Southpaw 17's are few and far between, but in the main price ranges CZ and Savage are the predominant providers. Both workhorses with good reputations.

The market is obviously much wider if you go right hand and will depend on how much you want to spend.

I'm a lefty too and use a Annie 1517 R/H and i don't find it a hinder to use and for my stalking rifle i do use a true left hander, would not worry to much about rimfires, as stated CZ and Savage are about the only manufactures of L/H rifes in HMR cal, i would go with the CZ over the savage by name savage by nature :)

A friend of mine has a Browning T-Bolt in .17HMR that he reckons shoots really well.

Good spot Garry, I'd forgotten about Annie. Oh6, I'd be really interested to hear more about the T-bolt - I was told they don't ship left handed rifles...!!

Anschutz do a L/H in the 1416 22lr Thumbhole stock shame they never carried on to the HMR!!!!!

Pound for pound £...You cant go wrong with CZ...I shoot LH with a RH Hmr and off a bipod It seems that everything Is In the right place...HTH

I think Rimfire magic in Yorkshire do a cost effective trigger kit for the CZ (not 100% sure)

Asthetics would take me down the CZ route plus they are blooming accurate, chop a few inches off the end and it makes for a good vehicle rifle!

Thanks for all this help - those that said they are l/h with a right handed rifle I assume you shoot it left handed not shooting right handed??

Thanks

Colin

yes i shoot left hand with a right hand rife, only rimfire due to the bolt having a short throw and the Anschutz having a neutral stock,

I'm left handed and use left handed guns but on the odd time that i get to shoot a right handed one there is no problem as long as you don't want a very fast second shot ;)

I am a leftie as well. I have a RH T-Bolt. Used mainly out of a vehicle so one hand on the trigger and the other by the bolt. You can reload really, really fast. But I would prefer a left hand one. I keep poking Browning and asking when they are going to import the LH ones as they are available in the states. If you shoot off the bipod then right hand isn't right as your hands are not in the right position and you then have to move the wrong arm to reload. Puts you off balance completely and takes time to settle back to take the next shot.
My local dealer has a LH CZ in stock and I am thinking about it as I want a true left hand. I may be at the game fair at the weekend so will be looking to see who has what.
My chioce currently is either stick with RH T-Bolt or get a left hand CZ. The savage isn't an option as I have heard to much bad press about them. Never shot one but don't want to take the risk.
Now if they made a semi that worked..................................

stick to shooting left handed with a right hand rifle ,then when you want to sell it you have a wider market there are more right handers than left.

Gosh. There's a truism to ponder.

This is exactly why there aren't more lefthand models about. If resale value was uppermost in his mind then the OP wouldn't have asked questions about specific models.:suss:

Quite honestly there is a much wider choice in left-hand rimfires than centrefires - both secondhand and new. I sold my Anschutz 1807L to a man who journeyed all the way from Wales. He was determined to have what he wanted, and not to compromise.

I agree. I am buying a rifle to shoot, not as an investment. Therefore I want it to do the best job possible and to be right for me.

Absolute +1. And the truism is complete tosh - or why would you (OP) be struggling to purchase one? It took me several weeks of searching and a considerable slice of luck to find my southpaws. Am I worried about resale/value? Not when there are so many left handed shooters around looking for a good left handed gun. Supply and Demand - there are fewer left handed rifles and so the price remains high in comparison to the wealth of RH available. Don't make do - have what you want or you will always hanker for what you didn't buy. Question for you - if shooting with a right handed gun is 'better' for left handers (sic), why are there not lots of right handed shooters looking for left handed rifles?

You are dead right Eric, all my left-hand rifles have come at a premium due to the lack of availability, at the moment I am looking for a fox calibre rifle second-hand in left-hand and what is about is more expensive than a right-hander, the left-hand rifles that I have sold in the past straightaway and I virtually got my money back, so why thumble about with the wrong handed rifle, in my humble opinion:)
