Advice for shooting off sticks.

Not local at all Patrickt. However, I am lucky enough to have bagged one of the sponsored places provided by this very forum. I'll be doing it down in Herts in July.

Whoop did we hit a nerve?

You then go on to make threats about culling?

For the record I am not stalking using iron or open sights as right now I am not stalking at all as am still in the process of coming back to shooting and stalking. It has been many years since I was shooting regularly.
You are talking out of your backside again Conure! You admit that you're not even stalking at all and clearly haven't done for some considerable time yet you're calling professionals on here "ignorant". Well I think you look a bit closer to home I'm afraid! You're totally unqualified to call anyone on here ignorant about stalking, FACT!

Where the hell have I ever made threats on this site anywhere? Please don't tell lies about me on anyone else on here! You're twisting my words!

Now grow up and post like a responsible member.

This : ..........................

Most of the characters who were unable to conduct themselves sensibly have now been suspended by the site Administrators and rightly so! Perhaps they haven't finished their cull?

It has always been made clear that I am coming back to shooting and stalking having not been able to do so for some time. Now I wish that was not the case but we have to deal with what life throws us. Plus am already fully grown thank you :-P . Despite my trying, and it seems failing, to point out what ignorance is and means a little web search brought this up: ..............

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/ignorance

lack of knowledge, understanding, or information about something:Public ignorance about the disease is still a cause for concern.Patients, it is claimed, were kept/left in ignorance of what waswrong with them.

As you clearly do not understand shooting without all those aids and about with iron or open sights by the very definition of the word that is ignorance. It is not an insult or name calling it is plain simple fact just as Ignorant means : ..................

not having enough knowledge, understanding, orinformation about something:

Just how is that name calling?

Blimey! Thanks for all the great advice, didn't mean to cause as
big a debate! I think for now, practice, practice, practice seems to be the most sensible advice. I have a friend lending me some quad sticks as well to have a play with, so we will see the best of both worlds.

I think for the moment though that it is me that needs the practice rather than the equipment that needs upgrading.

With any rifle shooting the more you do the better you get. All the years I.ve stalked deer I've only used a single stick and I'm quite good at that. If i went over to 2 or quad sticks I'm sure that i would need a bit of practice deploying and useing those types of sticks.
I shoot alot down the range and to get a reasonable score at the shooting discipline i shoot, I need to hit a 3" bull off hand at 80 mtrs with every first shot to get a good score and after much practice i do that most of the time.
So its practice ,practice and then some more.

. Plus am already fully grown thank you
Well maybe you should act as such because you're not coming out looking like a grown up, that's for sure.

I don't threaten anyone. I don't name call. I don't like liars! Take note Conure!

How the hell could I be threatening you with getting culled when I don't own the site? :cuckoo:

This got out of hand didn't it. Well at the risk of hijacking my own thread, I've been doing a bit of bedroom practice and already see a difference. The only thing I did was shoulder the rifle comfortably without sticks and the put a mark on wall where the bottom of the forestock lined up with. I then set the sticks up to correspond with this height. What a world of difference this made, I'm already considerably stabler and can hold over my "target" of a of a foot peg on a telegraph pole 100m away with no problem.

This is no doubt a basic set up thing, so hopefully if some beginners pick up on this they can save themselves the bother.

Actually I do not like liars and I do not know who owns this site either. In fact who the owner or owners are have never given it any thought and was not aware it was important just like I never bother who owns a shop I use. As for name calling well it looks as if your doing a pretty good job yourself on that one.

Glad you are geting on with them now. You may not be pulling the trigger but what you are doing is practice and if you read some of the old books on shooting and marksmanship dry practice including dry firing was and should be still an important part of practice. In fact have just remembered that there is a little gadget that archers use to practice their pull without using any arrows or rising damage to the bow, in fact am not sure if it needs the bow or not as have not seen one ............... might have to see if the book is packed yet or not and have a look, that can be cause if you try to "dry fire" a bow. I have never used one but do have a book on archery as it is another "hobby" that I am intending to get back to one I am able.

When will you give it up Conure. You have embarrassed yourself repeatedly on this thread with ridiculous statements (benches instead of sticks for foot stalking:rofl:), name calling and making false accusations! (once again you accuse me of name calling which I never have done and never will do :cuckoo:.Is that too difficult for you to understand? Most of us left name calling in the playground!)

You bring nothing to the table and have zero credibility as you're not even a stalker.

Practically everyone on this site has more to offer than you. All you do is quote what other people do or what you have read in books.

This latest pathetic excuse for your silly replies does nothing to help you cause either!
If you're not embarrassed by your posts on this thread you damn well should be!

Gentlemen can we not have this sort of bickering on the site please. Whilst we all have our opinions, and I have no issue with someone having one, all of us are different. What I find tiring, especially on a Bank holiday evening is name calling and having to deal with arguments that do nothing for the site and its members.

We have already got rid of another Troll this evening, who used fowl language and was aggressive ( worryingly if they own a firearms).

When I used to use a two stick rig I too tried using the looped paracord trick, but when in a rush it can be a bit time consuming, or it was for me. So I moved on to having the cord tied on the sticks, which was a big mistake on my part as the paracord caught on every available twig, bramble of bit of barbed wire. Then I found some flat 1" wide nylon strapping which was a vast improvement as it does not seem to catch on things as badly as the paracord.

Then I had an enforced layoff from stalking due to having an operation on my spine, on my return to stalking Tony (limulus) made me a set of quad sticks and sent them to me as a gift. He is a diamond geezer!

I have a friend who uses nothing but Bog-Pod tripod sticks, having used them in Africa while hunting there. He hates using my quad sticks. Having used both types I can see that they each have their place and are both better than twin sticks. I like my quad sticks, and last year shot a roe buck at 107 yds and a muntjac at 61 yds off them with no problems.

Tony's wooden quad sticks are quieter in use than any of the metal ones that I have seen being used, they are also light to carry.

I hope you enjoy your DSC1 as much as I did.

Simon

thank you very much for asking this question I was starting to think I was the only one having problems shooting off sticks I am the same I wonder from side to side .I am now going to make some quad stick as I have already paid out £100 for a top of the range double sticks and cannot get any better then 3 in a 4 inch circle at a 100 yards which is ok but I want better not only for the deer but my own pride .

Another vote for 'B&Q' quad sticks. Much more stable to shoot from.

Just remember for hill stalking to shorten the pair that are uphill. ;)

They always used to say that Practice makes Perfect! ........................................... what is missing from that it must be good practice after all why practice a bad technique or habit? Breathing control can also help.
