My large dog has developed lameness in his right hind leg and had it for about 3 weeks now. Having had another older dog go through 2 cruciate ligament ops I dread the worst, however I can't get any reaction from him when moving joints or putting pressure on it. No obvious problems with pads or paws or again putting pressure there or with toes. Nothing looks inflamed or different to the other side. He's not even 3 so I don't thinks it's an ACL or hip thing. He's not showing any signs of pain or making any noise and happy to bomb about as normal.
I don't recall any obvious injury when out walking. It just developed one morning.
I've noticed he will sometimes use it normally when at walking pace, but as soon as going into a slight jog or running he will hold it up. Every now and then will run using it, then largely hold it up again.
Any ideas if it's a sprain/muscle thing could take this long to heal? I'm trying joint aid which supposedly can help with muscles. I may have to go to the vet for some overpriced consultations and meds but trying to avoid if I can.
