Good call, I might do the same!
My last two pairs have been Meindl. They were comfortable from the start, warm and waterproof but the heels have failed on both pairs, they have just crumbled away. I don't think they were that old, probably no more than 3 or 4 years, worn regularly but not excessively, there is not much wear on the sole of either pair. There was a thread on here a while ago about this. I need another pair and will follow up a couple of suggestions seen above.
Alaska GTX or Trapper GTX for me, my Tatra Tops fell to bits inside a year.Hanwag Tatra Top
I have kicked the living daylights out of these, starting off with two months of daily wear on Rannoch Moor, which must rank as the wettest damn place in Scotland.
Followed by stalking, game shooting, chainsaw work and foresty. After fifteen months of hard use they are still waterproof and in pretty good condition, not to mention very comfortable. . . Worth every penny I paid for them. Highly recommended.
They are available from Ireland , I just Got a pair . They are great so farBestard if you can find them.
Altberg Defender - plenty available on ebay if you want to try out a second hand pair (Ex British Army) - no way you'll ever wear them out!
