Advice on reloading please

Having taken PeterH up on his offer , just wanted to say a huge thank you to him for a long and enjoyable day. Knowledgeable to the extreme and generous with his time and other bits and pieces. Great lunch even provided and lots of fun getting to what looks like a very workable load on the '06. Something I just couldn't get with the factory ammo I had. So once again many thanks Peter for all the time you gave up so freely to a complete stranger.:thumb:

My pleasure Nick. Hopefully with the knowledge gained yesterday you will be able to leave your factory rounds in the cabinet. With a little bit more tinkering with the distance from the lands you may be able to improve groups, but for most, the group of >.4" you achieved with the OCW test yesterday should be good enough - just need to shoot that weight and lands distance again to confirm.

In turn, thank you for bringing your .444 for me to have a go with - what a beast!! Spending today repairing my target holder :D

Lol I'm looking at the .444 today and fingers crossed it was just a bit of movement in the mounts so next time it'll go where it's meant to!

PeterH.

You Sir are obviously a Gentlemen.

Where were you in 1972 when I was in NickW's position.

Shooting but at that time not reloading - would have got in the way of my golf - retired at 50 (handicap 3) gave up golf and took up reloading - bugger that was 22 years ago!!

You'll get loads of very knowlegable and good advice here and plenty of help from the SD Massif...

Just for future clarity, here is a diagram of a metallic cartridge....

You will note the position of the case "HEAD"

This is a BULLET or PROJECTILE.... NOT a "HEAD"

Very succinctly pointed out Vipa, there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding of what a bullet and where a case head is...correct terminology is helpful and there are many dealers/traders also confused in this matter too!

+1
I am told and I forget.
I see and I remember.
I DO and I KNOW/UNDERSTAND.

So true, so true! :)

One of my Educational Psychology lecturers started off a session using (a slightly different version of) that to describe the way our brains work.

I hear and I forget,
I see and I remember,
I do and I understand.

It was also on the wall in the Visual Aids Department I think....which could be why I remember it! :)

It has been more than thirty-odd years since I was introduced to Piaget and his Theory of Cognitive Development (the origin of the saying) and it is still relevant today (even if they have now been re-named Visual and Kinesthetic Learners by someone trying to make na name for themselves:roll:).
