Advice sought - Binos

Am looking for a pair of Binos for my son for his 18th. He comes out stalking with me a lot so looking for a good pair and prepared to pay a bit. Rangefinders prob out of budget, but keen for ideas.

Am thinking £800 +/- as an aiming mark so definitely looking for something that will last and is robust.

Sadly my old leupold gold ring 10x42 took a ding a while back and seem to be beyond repair.

Am looking for Binos that are good out on the hill and so not just short range stuff.

Thanks

Just check with Leupold as they may well have a lifetime guarantee.
Suggest you search threads on here for this topic. Vortex seems to come up as best choice for new. Any of the big 3 if S/H.

Decent budget for some good s/h binos, or some new mid-range ones…

Check out Meopta and Leupold binos in that price range - you get a lot for your money at £800ish

If it is of any interest I have a set of mint condition Zeiss victory t*fl 8x42 (green coating). I have been waiting to post them in the classified but haven’t built up enough posts yet to list them.

The Vortex Fury's posted above would be a good shout. Good clarity, decent (not the best) low light performance, and the range function covers your son from stalking to long range target shooting.

Also Vortex's no quibble lifetime warranty can't be beaten.

Gold ring might be able to be repaired for free. And if they cant they will send you a newer model, likely with much better glass. I did the same a few years ago.

Have a look at Steiner SkyHawk or Ranger binos. None better for the money and well within your budget. I did a write up comparing a large range of binos a few years back on hear and the Steiners came out tops. Rugged, armoured, decent coatings, great low light performance and great resolution.

Would suggest going for Alpha binos second hand first - Swaro, Zeiss or Leica.

Next choice would be Meopta new.

Going to ruffle a few feathers here, but having had a couple of sets of Vortex models, I think they are massively overrated and people only rave about them because of the warranty.

I can recommend Maven for seriously good value for money. Their B series will fit into your rough price range.

They've got some ex display models and stuff up at the minute as well.
