Children’s Binos

Hi guys,

My 6 year old is very interested in coming out stalking so have agreed that it’ll be a Christmas holiday treat. There are plenty of threads on Google for children’s binos but wondered whether anyone on SD is in a similar position and could recommend a pair. Don’t want to constrain any recommends but would be a pair that could last him until he (A) continues the interest and gets a more expensive (“proper”) pair and (B) something that I won’t cry about if he drops and smashes them…

Cheers

Look in your local auction, you can do an initial search online, there are often east german Zeiss in them for not a lot of money, You will need to go and look through them but they are pretty reliable.

My son started off birdwatching with grandad with a 10x50 monocular which was lighter and easier to use than binos. We still have it in the car boot and every time I get it out I realise it is as good as binos for most things

Vortex bantams. I use these more than my bigger pair. Great bino for the price.
These look great. My seven year old will be getting some of these for Christmas. I had a look around earlier in the year and these seemed to be the best thing on offer. Also, vortex warranty is compelling in this situation- if they get broken, vortex fix them.

Another vote for vortex.

But I went with the Diamonback. Good enough that they will last well into adulthood.

The Bantams are just a bit too flimsy.

Steiner 8x30 constant set focus. For the price they are brilliant and I picked mine up the other day for a peek at a bird here.
