Wanted: advice

just wondering if anyone could shed wisdom on why when reloading the powder into a case the powder dances and sticks up on the sides of the funnel like static

because it is static electricity ! use pledge <other sprays are available> on the funnel and BE AWARE that static electricity can cause a spark and MAY ignite the powder

I purposely bought an RCBS antistatic funnel (plastic) for the very reason you mentioned but the first time using it as you say the powder was sticking and dancing until finally with a good few taps it entered the case. l happened to have, unused, a Lee plastic funnel and tried that no problems.

Apart from Static l can’t explain it.

Would an anti static wrist band to a croc clip would work to something metal help? Like IT people use to negate it.

Run lots of powder through it the funnel to build up a graphite coating on it as this will then negate static forming.

Nylon and polyester clothing doubled with
Slippers or similar with rubber soles plastic or other fabrics
are most likely to cause static electricity because they are excellent insulators

as above you did answer your own question, best option is a metal funnel, buy once cry once, the cheap ones still work great ive never had an issue even with the cheap lee funnels as they are anti static, its likely your clothes or workbench (i only had an issue when i used one of those cheap rifle assembly diagram mats as a work pad if you know which i mean)

Just get a Lee Precision Powder Funnel for less than £4.00 and it'll be problem solved. It does for .22 to .45 calibres (from memory).

Many folk decry Lee stuff and although it isn't as posh as other more expensive makes of reloading equipment, generally it works as well, is cheaper and they've have had some ingenious solutions to reloading issues to make life easier over the years. And if you are a newcomer to reloading on a budget, it'll be a godsend.

I rubbed my plastic funnels with used dryer sheets to handle the static, worked fine for my electronic scale too.
