Air Rifle lifespan?

I was given my BSA Airsporter for Christmas 1982. As a youngster I put thousands of pellets through it. It remains down at my folks. Last week a squirrel climbed onto the bird feeder. Airsporter 1, squirrel 0.

It is unlikely you will get an airsporter to exceed 12ftlbs, but as always run it over a chronograph, then re check after half a tin of pellets, as they can creep up a little after a tune.

My Anschutz Match 54 is almost 50 years old, was a club gun for 30 odd years of that. I expect it’s over 300,000 rounds that’s only 6000 a year and I shoot about 1800 according to the ammo usage on my FAC.

Air rifle ammo on FAC ? I’m confused …. Unless of course it’s above 12 ft/lbs ?

Be careful what spring you get chances are you’ll ned to cut the spring down most springs available are longer than the original ones fitted ask me how I know 🤭
I’ve a 1975 mk11 mercury that I serviced more or less the same internals as the airsporter the shape of the trigger block as you know is not easy realignment under a new spring tension look at Welsh Willy tuning kit well worth doing remember keep it under 12ft lbs good luck keep us informed on progress.

I hope you protected yourself from the nasty lead pellets 😐

I have a bsa cadet in 177 which was purchased as a christmas gift in 1934
Its minging outside after going through 4 generations and no cleaning
But it still groups well

Airsporters are beautiful things, get it serviced by an airgun specialist and crack on.
I swapped mine for a mountain bike when l was youngish, big regret.
PCP s are a good thing also, but that springer holds a lot of good rat blatting memories and some ridiculous rabbit shots with silly holdover.
And they were humane kills.

managed to get time to strip the air rifle today and found the culprit, the spring had snapped a coil in from the butt end of the rifle, i am sure this must cause a different pressure with each shot which hopefully explains the wide spread.

will get everything cleaned up and ready for the service kit to arrive.
