Alan wood knives

I bought one direct from Alan a couple of years ago at the CLA, not sure if he is going this year. They also come up for sale on here now and again but be fast as they are in high demand.
If you are prepared to wait you could always contact Alan direct and get one made, but it won't be quick.

If there's a particular model you want I can put a word out but otherwise have you thought about a knife from Simon Hardie (Ashdown Forest Crafts Ashdown Forest Crafts | Handcrafted Knives and Leatherwork) or Mark Hill?

The AW Woodlore knife has a 15 year waiting list and costs 5 or 6 times that of a knife made to an identical specification by someone else, but Ray Mears chose Alan Wood and that gives them a cachet.

Do they never go blunt then? Or do the gralloch for you...like if Harry Potter did a gralloch...or is it just "Emperor's new clothes" syndrome?

Another vote for Colin DC.

Missed a rams horn drop point by now departed US maker Easler on Colin's site just before Phoenix 15 and I still feel gutted!

There is a lot of knife makers out there who build as good and better than alan wood at a lot less than his i have a set that was made by a chap of here he made me a tandem set with 2 other sheaths for 1/2 the price of the woods knives and i am very precise with quality and these are 100%.

regards chris

I couldn't agree more Chris.. I chose a guy from Montana to build a knife for me which came in at half the price compared too an AW build.
Rip off Britain comes to mind..

There's a shop near me that is selling a couple of limited additions James purdey knives around the £750 price bracket.
Insane.....

I have to say, as a knife nut, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.I have several custom knives, in different steels, some I like and some I love to use. My go to knife for years was a iberrson admiralty knife, Ibby as she was known as, I found it on the ranges at Brecon, my son now has it. I don,t own a Alan Wood, as all the one,s I have held did not seem right in the hand for me, what ever you buy, try to handle it first , if you are going to use it daily.
otherwise try blade forums.com, it's USA based, but most will post.

It's mine! I never thought it'd be found again! I'll forward a stamped addressed envelope so you can re-unite me with it.

But OTOH if anyone finds a lambskin jerkin on the B5380 in Leicestershire...now that IS mine...and a Martindale machete in a wood near Whetstone in Leicestershire. That's mine also! Both lost over twenty five to thirty years ago...but I remain ever hopeful.

As my late father said when he scolded me, "I wore that jerkin through all six years of WWII without a scratch on it or me...and you lose it within six weeks!"

My mate had an Alan wood for his 18 th he's in his 30s now it cost £140 he recently got another £370 I got my pro stalker for £330 so hopefully when my grand kids knock it out on ebey when I've snuffed it it'll turn a buck or two .thats my justification for spending an obscene amount of ££ on a very lovely knife
